Some info first: I got some AC/DC from 220V to selectable 3/4.5/6/7.5/9/12V for just 5$ in a electronic/components shop (conrad).
On the market there are many of these AC/DC transformet .. and the main difference it is if they are stabilized or not and the maximum power that they can provide : maximum mA current for (in theory) any selected tension (V).
The cheapes are with little mA (300mA) and not stabilized : that I got for 5$.
These AC/DC where not designed for used as charger !
Take care too much mA and not stabilized (not stabilized meend that the output tension V isn't 100% stable) can destroy the controller (it has append to me with a crappy 1$ transformer to 3.6V and 900mA ... it has not destroy my OEM Bit controller (but it was not working, only in conjunction with Bat it was ok, and it has destroyed one of my Smarland IR controller !) ... so take extra care !
For the Digi-Q controller it could be more safe since it hase a fuse to prevent possible mess !
For plug the power I just normaly make a connection in parallele with the batteries (2 , 4 or 8 ... depends how many battery there are in the controler ... for the digi-Q is is 4) so I can use the controller without batteries or with batteries while I charge them .
The plus that I use is the most standard one for 3V ... many Digital Camera / Walkman / etc etc has this ... in Conrad (
www.conrad.de) it the code #733989 (1 cost 55cent).
The Transformer come already with a set of different plug.
I have also recently find out that there are some charger for 4 to 8 cell with 350mA to 150mA with the same type of plug for just 9$ ... that is the best for lazy guys that don't like to remove batteries and put in the charger ... In the case of Digi-Q is not a problem ... but for the original Bit it is always necessary to use a screwdriver !

P.S: it doesn't metter the type of batteries ... the only suggest it is to use NiMh with little mAh ... so in case you are shorting the life of them for not a proper charging ... you don't lose a lot ... NiCd bat are too crappy to be used in the controller due to tghe memory effect ... and due to this it wuld be better to discharge first or use very little mA for charge it when not 100% discharged.
, He said that NiMH were fine in these. The term maH is not how much the batteries produce, its how much they CAN prodoce for one hour. So they dont put out any more power than the device uses, that means they wont hurt anything.
