Deep Dish Wheels
This is my Calsonic Xmod with a set of wider wheels I made. If you have a dremel, its pretty easy and with the Mini-Z bodies, it looks a little better. To make the wider wheels, or wheels with a wider offset, I basically CA glued one wheel to another and then cut off the excess. Take an old front axel and put it in the dremel and now you can use it like a primitive lathe, which makes the cutting and trimming easy, fast and accurate. I'm also running a 5th cell in the back, which is another reason why I like this body, tons of room in the back.

And the wheels aren't wide enough to take a bite out of the turning or anything?

Wider Wheels and Turning
I haven't noticed any difference in steering.
When I first modified my car for better performance, I noticed that it would flip fairly easily going into a turn, so I started running the regular wheels inverted, or mounted backwards on the axel to get a wider track. I have been doing that for a while and didn't notice a problem turning. Now I'm running these wider wheels with the "melted tie rod" mod for better turning, so maybe they've cancelled eachother out?
my mods:
Orion Elite Stock Motor, unmodified
20 tooth Pinion
AWD
Modular Fifth Cell mounted behind the rear axel
Replaced stock wires
Replaced stock motor connector with Deans Mini Plugs
Melted Tie Rod 0 degrees
Custom wide wheels with Mini-z rubber tires plus others...

Love the rear wheels...
Where did you get your Orion Elite Stock Motor and 20 tooth Pinion?
Can you sell me a Orion Elite Stock with connectors and everything needed to install? (with that brown and black thing on the motor)
I am also in SF. Where do you go to race?

20 tooth pinion
Mr. NewBit,
The 20 tooth pinion comes from a company called Plastruct and is part number GEAR-220. It doesn't fit on the Orion, or other small motors, without making a brass sleave out of 3/16 inch tubing. Its a pain and a dremel or small drill is needed. Also, the rear brace has to be modified to alow the motor to sit higher.
Not sure if I want to go into buisness with these things, but I am working on a better way to mount the 20 tooth. If I find an easier way, I'll shoot you a post and maybe we can work something out. Heres a better picture of the "brown and black" thing.

Orion Elite
I got my first one from TowerHobbies.com, but then my local hobby shop got some in, so the newer one I bought locally for $11.00.

Local Orion Source
Mr. NewBit,
The name of the store is Dollhouses, Trains and More.... and they are located in Ignacio, about 17 miles north of the GG Bridge right off 101. Great store for RC stuff....

Deep Dish Wheel
Max,
Thanks for the props. The wheels work great with Mini-Z tire sets, which is good becuause the RS tires don't fit them as well after the center ridge is cut off during modification.
I never found a good source for foam tires. Is anyone out using foams?

tonka tone,
i use the foam tires 'cause I melted the all the other tires i had...from the stock ones, to the hard treaded slicks. that is like 6 sets of tires in 4 months. i have only fun the foams like 2 times in my house. you want 'em? 'cause the also have a few at the rat shack here.
the tires got worn down, cause i play with them almost every day in the dirt, and pavement. powersliding is fun!!! i cannot drift very well... but the foam tires looks like i could wear them down in like 1 day.
