Removing The Cripple Cap
cant you just cut the cripple cap from the controller

Yes. That's what I did on both of them. (one on the front the other on the back)

Clip that FOUL offender off! No need to take any chances with soldering!

Though I do recommend you clip as close to the solder point as possible...In case you want to re-attach the crip cap later.

...Not likely to happen, but never say never.
