Smile Podracer

I think you would be able to make a pod racer out of a digi-q, some lexan, plastic and mold, foam, 3.8 motors, wire, and wires with small plugs and female connectors to fit in. Like this!

[]-[] <-- Electric ducted fan units
\ / <-- The wires with plugs
[-] <-- Pod with digi-q PCB inside

The difference in motor speed would steer pod like the car. Wires with plug would have female connector in the motor. The wires would simply plug into the EDF's. Small pieces of lexan would make small wings on pod and engines.

also the fan unit is the motor so where does the 3.8s come in?
you would need some serious power to move any fan fast enough to propel at a fast enough speed to make it cool.

my biggest question still is how you would get everything to levitate.

it will have small legs of lexan to hold it up until the wings take over. The 3.8s will run the fan units!

how will the 3.8s run the fan?

i already stated this. the fan unit is the motor. i dont get how a motor will power another motor.

and to get two fans to drag all that weight that is dragging on lexan you would need to build a mini fusion reactor or something.

youd have better luck mastering the force.

I was really bored an made one..... sort of. It was from this set I got a while ago. I see some real potential in this though. It has a black base with 4 wheels that it's normally on. Put the pcb on the bottom, add some gears to the back, add a steering unit to the front, and maybe make the engines of the pod racer the batteries instead of the decorated one the set comes with.

lets all keep in mind that Racer9 was the guy that was all positive that he could get a rotary-powered bit for $75... My suggestion would be to watch the movie and press the buttons on your controller for realism.

how does the 3.8 run the fan?

any fan you buy already has a motor in it. are you planning on having 3.8 power a generator to power the fan? that would be inefficient way to do this. plus most fan motors are going to be more powerful than a "3.8" and any fan that would propel that much weight is going to have a heavy voltage requirment which would mean you will need about 30batteries to run everything which will make your podracer the size of you. helium? you will need a balloon about 1000 times the size of the pod racer to lift it.

i commend you on your creativity and all but this would not work with todays technology. thats why pod racers appeared in a "science fiction" movie

this fan costs 140$ and i doubt two of them would pull that much weight because you will be lugging a lot of batteries around. how you planning on steering this btw?

you would be better off making your rotary engine first.
