CustomTrain Body and Specs

I'm building a train (even though I could just buy one)...what should I make the body out of? Some kind of putty, Lexan, paper mache or what?

I was going to make it an old style train. I bought a box of clones and am going to make each one a seperate car. Then I will hook all the cars together and drive them around. I'm doing a hidden tri-cell in the first car (the engine)....and I'm removing the motors from the 2nd and 3rd cars, so they roll freely. The last car (caboose) may have a motor, but I will use the same frequency to give it some extra torque. I will have to just play with it and see if the engine will pull 3 other cars.

Sound like this would work? What would be the best material to use for the bodies?

What about stealing bodys off a cheap HO railroad set? Scale should be pretty close. That way you can concentrate on all the electrical/motor work.

i made a 4wheel drive truck & trailor (see my bit hgv thread)
it pulls trailor & load around carpet with ease
so why not make it with 2 or more axles to make it more like a train

That's a pretty cool idea, I think you should try and get your hands on some Bus bodies... They'd make the best candidates IMO. They've got boxy bodies which would be great for 'box cars' with little modification. Just my $.02 *shrug

No problem... every once in a while they slip out, only thing is that I'm pretty sure that I'm spent for the rest of the week. So expectations should be low.
