reception problems

im having problems with my LXX Xanavi, the onyl lil' prob is the reception in this lil' baby is awful, i've looked for the crippling capacitor in the remote and its not there......it only has a few feet, and then the car tends to have jerky responses to turning, and when forward/reverse is pressed with turning it gets really jerky, this also happens more as the battery dies off...........does anyone know why this is happening and how i can fix it? is it just a bad attenna? any help is greatly appreciated

its probably a 27mhz. more batteries in the controller and a bigger antenna.

It's quite possible that there is a 'Crip Cap' on the PCB in the car too. I myself am only familiar w/ Tomy products... maybe someone with a little more experience w/ LXX can chime in and shed a little light on this. I mean if there is a difference at all in the construction and schematics of the PCB's.

i wouldnt try to remove those little smt(surface mount technology) caps. that stuff is small and you really risk wrecking your board. ive read many times on this board where people totally ruin a good car by doing a mod that is not totally necessary.

it is a lot less invasive to wire a 3rd battery into the controller and to ad a larger antenna on the controller.

thanks, the PCB layouts are identical to that of TOMy's (which is great for mods, helps me out laods so i can practice on cheaper cars) so i think i'll see if a third battery helps(so just add another AA in series to the controller?) and kwikbb can you explain what you mean by crip cap (cirppling capacitor), cuz i checked in the controller and there was nothing.........but you were saying there may be one on the cars PCB?

yes in series so theres 4.5v going through the controller. this gives you about 2x the range and it will allow you to charge a dual battery car if you ever want to do that which i highly suggest.

and to answer your question towards kwibb yes if there isnt a cripple cap in the transmitter, there may be one on the pcb. it is really really small and even if you are skilled at solder removal i would suggest not risking destruction of a perfectly good car. if you still want to do it check out www.questformadness.com

And yes hogjowlz is correct, if you aren't comfortable with a soldering iron then pass on this particular mod... it is advanced. But if you choose to do it, good luck and let us know how you make out!

alright well i just modded the battery casing and had three AA in there, now my car wont charge on it, so im gonna scrap that ( unless anyone can tell me why its not working) and put it back to two AA, im gonna go looking for that PCB crip cap....

just run a 3rd battery and bigger controller antenna. or get a clone that has better range and transplant the pcb.

the thrid battery set up didnt work, it wouldnt charge the car either....its a single cell LXX, and after removing the crip cap, AND trying the third battery, checking the wiring im still getting nothing or no improvement. does anyone know where abouts on the circuit boards is the part that controls the running frequency?

you will need to make a 4 battery charger to charge a multi-battery car.

"I" removed the cripple cap from the board of my GTr set and just about doubled the range of my car. I wonder why it didnt work on yours?
