snowmobile mod?
ok it's snowing outside and i just got this crazy idea. has anyone ever modded a bit into a snow mobile? i'm trying to think of the best way to do that.
main problems i'm seeing:
traction
steering
electronics and water
i might go by a clone just to try it. if i get enough ideas on how to do this.

<looks outside and sees snow>
it'll be a big hit here in canada
problem 1. if you were to use something like hot glue on the PCB and cover it in it that would make it waterproof, the same could be done to the steering coils i guess, but i wouldn't worry about them too much. Then the motor humm hot glue would work but it would create over heating problems when running. i'm gonna have to think about this one.
problem 2. ummm you may need to extend the body to put wheels way farther than the powered back wheels then streach some lego(?) tracks perhaps or something with the same effect between the stock powered ones and the made up ones in the far back (extended part). there really is no easy fix that i can come up with now
for front skies you might want to try using a metal flap from a 3.5 inch flopy disk cut it into small strips and bend the ends then you could glue it to the wheels you might want to try different shapes and legnths and stuff to get speed or manouverability
if this works out it means that bits have been modded into trucks airplanes boats paperweights.......... and now snomobiles
keep us posted if you decide to do this

I'm also now thinking about doing this...they seem to have the clones super cheap at malls/wal-mart/rite-aid/walgreens.
This could be fun!
Time to devise a track system...

I passed on the motorworks because it is too crappy. Might have to still get it. Searches in Michigan show no cheap clones left.

motor works are fast and really torquey. They also have pretty good handling.

Here's mine!
I modded this from a Bit clone into a Ski-Doo TNT
Just kidding! Seriously though, I picked this up at an antique store today on my way home from work- for $12. Other than being REALLY dirty & dusty it is in outstanding condition.
I had one as a kid and have wanted one ever since. Quite a coinsidence that this post should come up on the same day

Sorry...
This one is too big for a Bit- it is about 13 inches long! I thought I would post this pic when I saw this subject on the board.
It is a battery-operated promotional toy from the 1970's. VERY collectible; these battery-operated snowmobiles can sell for $100 or more each in good condition- even more if still in the original package.
