Bit died
So, I was able to enjoy my Bit (Special Edition Hirota Xanavi) for a total of about 10 days. Then it suddenly quit working. Changed batteries, recharged, checked the blue wire attachment to the antenna, nothing. The "on air" light lights up when the buttons are pushed, but no reaction by the car, either motor or turning. When it first happened, I could occasionally get the car to reverse. But now, nothing. I can't tell if resistors are fried or not. I had done the cripple capacitor mod some time ago, but it worked fine right after.
Does this just happen? And does it mean the end to this bit? Or are there fixes that I haven't read about?

hmm sounds like when my kid threw one of my cars. i think the battery wires are loose or something i havnt had time to work on it tho.
another thing to test if it is a reception issue try touching the tip of the controller antenna to where the car antenna meets the board.

Hey ddt, have you looked at all the wires on the pcb in the car? To see if some wires are touching or something. Did it ever take a spill off a table? What had happened to me once when my car went toppling over the edge of my coffee table was the battery popped out a bit (no pun intended). All I can think to do now *shrug, good luck and keeps up to date with your situation.

I did check under the pcb and didn't see anything obvious, I'll check again though. And I don't think that it fell off a table. Though one of the games the kids play is a kind of demolition derby crashing into each other.

Try taking the motor out and placing it carefully back in, sometimes the contact gets messed up.

An update. I got a clone (thunderbolt) of the same frequency as my bit and tried the controller on it. Only reverse worked, nothing else. Then I tried the bit controller on the clone car and nothing worked. This suggests to me that both the controller and the car are broke. One thing I was wondering, can those contacts on the controller, forward, reverse, left, right, wear out?

The contacts are actually micro switches; and yes they can wear out, but I wouldn't think that it could happen that quickly. Unless maybe someone was jamming on them very hard and they actually broke or wore out prematurely that is.
You could always open the controller and try jumping the solder connections with a wire to check if the switches are indeed the problem.
