gear question
I was just wondering what pinion and spur gear combos you guys are running. From what I've been reading the DTMs seem to be much faster than the other micros. I have a DRR but am now seriously considering getting a DTM SP.

DTM and DRR should be similar in performance, since these are pan cars anyway.
I recommend: 6 cells to start, 180 motor (HPI), and 13/42 gear combo.

Yes, if u upgrade the motor and batteries to 6cells yuor performance will be just like that of a DTM SP. Remember, you will probably need to upgrade the speed controller.

Thanks Gertman, I forgot about the ESC issue. I'm not sure if the DRR ESC can take up to 6 (I believe it can).
even the 40T HPI Mod Motor will fit. that might give a little more power than the typical 180

Thanks for the replies. Actually I'm running the Peak Wind 45t motor, 7.2v, and 13T pinion. So far, no problems with the ESC. With a 42T spur, 29mm wheels, and at 26000 rpm, my theoretic speed is just over 27mph. It seems that I've read of dtms running well over this speed. I know the stock spur gear on a DTM is 40T so that will add some speed. What I'm ultimately trying to achieve is a 35mph DRR. Is anyone running a larger pinion than 14T? Also, are the DTM wheels larger than 29mm in diameter? Thanks, again.

if you want to just make your car fast then just put the 17t pinion from the tamiya mini 4wd cars. it will go fast but will be slower in acceleration. also your moter may get hot after a while, so dont run it like that too long.

2000rr,
If you're from lakewood (near norwalk) email me your phone number, so you, me and a group of other guys can get together for a Mini RC race. There's one going to be held on possibly 1/12/03.
My email is nomotorlimit@hotmail.com
You'll get to witness an ABC DTM run in the high 50's! My top was 59 mph, but the one I have on video was clocked at 56 mph.
If it is off a little, probably 1 or 3 miles per hour + or -

well, i am introducing the mini hobby to others. i got the abc dtm years ago, proabably 4-5 years ago at ultimate hobbies in orange but they dont sell them anymore. they only have micro rs4s and mini zs and dynamite rocket racers( great deal, rtr for 55 bucks!!!) but, i get most of my stuff off of the internet. they used to race mini zs at ultimate hobbies but i dont know if they still do. if you are in the area i suggest you stop by the local track, socal. it is 1/10 rc racing. it is indoor with offroad and onroad tracks. alot of the big boys of rc racing race here in pro mod. this is where i test out my micro stuff. btw, do the mini x basic kits still come with bearings? thanks

sorry for the late reply guys,
I live in Los Angeles, but me and a group of other guys will be having a final get together for mini Z's, but I think the ABC's will do just fine, because the straightaway is at least 25 feet, and the track is wide enough to accomodate ABC's.
email me at nomotorlimit@hotmail.com if interested. The event will be on 1/12/03 (next weekend).
I'll be bringing my 56 mph ABC DTM, plus a Mini Z that is faster than a DTM with a 180/6 cell set-up.
2000RR,
I got your email and will call you soon. I hope you can make it. Thanks.

2000RR lives in Lakewood. I'm in the L.A. area.
The only time I get major oversteer with the ABC's is when I'm running the car on a high traction surface, but I found some foam tires that mellow out the traction a little. I'll bring some for you when we meet.
Let's get all Socal DTM Racers together for a meet, at least once a month?
