Lap Counter Project - DONE
yep - i finally did it... put together a little single-lane lap counter as a low-cost project that anyone here on the forum can build... the counter uses household parts and a low-cost LCD display with half-inch digits... the counter is battery-driven, cheap (about $10), and does not require a PC...
the biggest problem was finding a display with the circuitry built-in... and long battery life (try several years!)...
the other potential obstacle was how well the display could be adapted - in this case, very easily! no real soldering skills needed... other parts include (at least for my version):
- wire
- a little bolt and nut
- two small pieces of plexiglass for a stand
- a piece of cardboard
- some foil
- some tape
- some superglue
- some stickers, and art cut out of zz accessory box wrappings (you did save that stuff, right?)...
- just did a couple test runs, and the lap counter works just fine... this project could also be combined with other lap counter electronics (such as Steve's RS232 PC counter/timer) or expanded to a dual-lane counterl...
- pics to follow shortly...
