SB Hybrid Motor Question
Do anyone know how much faster my Xmod will be with the SB Hybrid Motor mod?Right now I have the stage two 10 tooth motor, bearings, awd, carbon driveshaft, and the 6 cell mod. Do anyone have a SB Hybrid Motor for sale.I have two stage 2 motors and the spinbrush motor but I dont wanna spend 15 bux for a pinion puller when I can just buy a new motor for 15-25 bux with the pinion already installed.

I'm kinda new to x-mods, but my understanding of the effect of the spinbrush magnets increases the torque and not the speed, but maybe it will be able to get closer to the top speed of the motor with the sb magnets. Also I was reading that you can switch the magnets without taking out the armature, there is a tutorial on another forum on how to do it. Hope it helps

I'm new to Xmods too,I read the magnets gives more torque but that should increae my top speed a lil bit if not I think I 'll just a new motor. I want to get around 17-20 mph at least.

What are you using the car for? If it is a short track, then an eight-tooth would be sufficient and you would want more torque. It it is a long track, then a 10-tooth would be good and you would want the power for good top end.
20 mph would be okay, but not necessarily so for a long track.
Good luck, bro.

I'm not really in to racing .I just find a large flat surface and play.I'm saying I want at least 20mph cause my 1/10 scale car and truck are doing high 20's and mid 30's so I'm just used to speed.

One of my Skylines has Li-Ions and an AtomicMods SS130 with a 10-tooth in it. It probably runs about 30 or so, but is way hard to control at that speed. If you turn too hard, it flips! But it hauls in a straight line.

Re: SB Hybrid Motor Question
send me your two motors...I'll do the pinion swap for ya....
the SB motor needs to be wired up backwards from the S2 motors

thanx Skurge420 i just found this chart so I think it will be cheaper for me to just sell my motors on ebay and buy a new motor thats better than the Sb mod or just buy the Sb motor with the pinion already attached.I saw some somewhere for I think 15 bux shipped.I should be able to get around 10 or 12 bux for my motors including shipping.

i did the sb hybrid on a stage 1 white motor...and the torque difference is outstanding....that thing flies off the line now...and it makes for awesome slow show drifts

all you gotta do is bend the plastic cap on the motor up, pull out the clip holding in the magnets, slide out both magnets (mark them so you know which side is which) slide the new ones in, insert clip, bend down the plastic, use flathead to bend metal back over plastic to secure it, and your done.
you can even do the same process and put the xmods magnets back in the spinbrush motor and reassemble the sb.

I did this mod last night, but it took me like 30min not 5. Everything was easy except geting that U pin that holds the magnets in place out.
After this point ALL problem were my own faulty ability to work with tiny stuff:
Other than that it was easy - well till i jacked up one of my brushes while trying to pry out that freakin U clip. I ended up breaking the copper strip on the brush trying to get the right contact patch on the com Since its my only motor i said wth and soldered the accual brush back on the copper peice and then tried my best to get the contact with the com right - it was still way off but i put it back to gether and it accualy ran!
Now i did this with the stock motor that came with my xmod. I had advanced the timing and was able to beat my friend's stage2 topspeed motor in a drag race.(he did have AWD tho) I thought that timing gave you rpm but i took him off the line every time and his top speed was just a hair faster than mine. Now i'll have to race him with my "stage1 advtiming-SB-gettobrush" and see how much the crappy brush job is hurting me. - but it feels about the same.
Some day i'll fork out the cash and get the stage2 and do the same mods - minus the getto-solder-brush deal

I built a SB hybrid by putting SB magnets in my Stage 2, 10 tooth (2 EZ) One point I'd like to make is DON'T CHANGE THE WIRING. If you put the magnets in the right way, it with run the right way. Changing the wiring messes up the timing a little bit. This car runs like a bat out of hell (considering how much I've spent). I'm so cheap though, trust me, if I could afford it, I'd go full out with Li-Ions and FETS and fatboys from atomic mods
