They lay down sheets of fiberglass weave and bond it with an epoxy that contains chips of carbon. Very similar to fiberglass except the carbon is lighter and it takes up mass in the epoxy thus making it lighter than fiberglass yet as strong.

yeah... but if your question was regarding more of "how are carbon fiber XMODS parts made?" here's the answer (atleast at xmodconcepts.com)
Here at xmodconcepts.com we have 4 employees. each employee has their job on an assembly line. as far as carbon fiber parts go... here's a step by step of the procedures of making a carbon fiber lip at xmodconcepts.com
1. CREATION: employee #1 lays the carbon fiber strip (which is usually about a 2" strip cut from a flat carbon fiber sheet (about 11"x50"). this carbon fiber is highest in grade A carbon fiber ordered from only the best sources. after laying each piece, a stencil is used to trace the exact shape of the piece that's being replicated onto the carbon fiber. a high power rotary tool is then used to precisely cut out the shape. the shape is then clamped and holes are drilled for the mounting screws. the shape is removed and then past to employee #2.
2. QUALITY CONTROL: employee #2 and employee #3 then takes the shape and uses precision sheers (tin snips) and a very hard file to then shape the lip so that it passes the buyers inspection and quality requirments.
3. CLEANING & PACKING: employee #4 is responsable for using a high grade cleaner to remove debrey and the trace marks from the shape. it is then moved to a polishing station to be polished and waxed. it is buffed, wiped with a soft buffing cloth and packaged into a small zip lock baggie for shipping.
not bad for $12 bucks a lip now is it?
