Rx for SP

I'm putting together the electronics I'm going to use on my SP. I already have a mini-x and a basic 27MHz AM futaba Tx (http://tinyrc.com/shop/product.php?pid=502). Since I'm trying not to spend much money on the electronics, mostly through getting used items off of ebay, I was wondering if the Novak XXL AM was any good? Retail they're $60 or so, and I'm bidding on one on ebay that is about $25 now, but will probably hit 30-40 before done. Are the AM's good enough quality to allow me to upgrade my TX in the future or is FM pretty much the only uprgade path? For reference my current Tx only has throttle/steering trims, no EPA or other fancy adjustments. So I guess I'm asking whether or not I should suck it up and go for a nicer Rx and Tx since it will serve me better in the future, or can I get by with the AM XXL too? For cheaper retail options, I'm looking at this new airtronics:

http://www.airtronics.net/92726Z.htm

which isn't much larger than the XXL and is a bit cheaper retail (doesn't look like it has a wide release yet, but I found one place selling it for $40).

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: XXL on ebay just went for $37. Now I'm looking to that airtronics, but will that work with my futaba Tx?

If you guys think FM is a much better option for my money and future, then I'm also looking at:
http://www.hitecrcd.com/Receivers/HFS03MM.htm
and
http://www.hitecrcd.com/Receivers/HIS03MK.htm
which are both just a bit larger than the xxl and airtronics. The first goes for about $32 and the latter for about $50 since it has IPD. I kindof doubt I'd need the IPD. If you think I should go this route, can you recommend a good Tx to go with it? (and are there any fun things you can use a 3rd channel for?)

Thanks again.
