Tri Cell Thunder Charger

Anyone tried a LAYMANS Tri Cell on those Big Lots cars? If, not try it. This thing is a rocket, and with the steering these things are known for, it does some crazy doughnuts. Also, the tri cells fit in nice and tight and you can put the PCB cover back on and make it look stock.

Here is a pic of the inside with the tri cell wrapped in electrical tape. The blue battery is the one that came with the car.

What's the mA rating on that blue battery, and what kind of range do you get out of that funky antenna?

There is nothing printed on the battery so I don't know what the mA IS. The range is really good. My kitchen is about 15 long and I can run it from one end to the other.

So those are the BIG LOT cars every one was speaking of. I have one but i didnt know Big Lots / Thunder Chargers were one in the same. Yes the reception is good ( so fact i have tried duplicating this type of antenna on my customs) and the quality is fairly good. I used the thunder charger as opposed to a bit or zip in order to make my dual cell Import Tuner Acura Rsx. The thing is fast , steady and smooth.

Big Lots is the store they are sold at. People call them Big Lots cars as refering to where they are from.

Smile THUNDER CHARGERS

I cant say enough about these thunder chargers. Every paycheck i try to buy at least 4 more cars for 20.00.

They come with Nickel Metal Hydride batteries rated at 110 MAh.

The range on these is amazing. Outside I was able to get
a little over 80 feet! The motors are a mystery but i think they
are around a 2.2.

If you can get your hands on one you need to.

The secret to the range is in the controller, not the wire antenna. In fact I believe the wire antenna hinders reception. I strted switching the steering wires around so I could use Microsizer controllers, and my range went to crap. I put a regular antenna on the cars and the recption is the same as a Microsizer.

...and as far as the motors only being as fast as a 2.2, I have to strongly disagree. Maybe you have a dud, because I've bought like 8 of these cars, and all the motors performed consistantly. I can say without a doubt they are faster than a 2.2, because the pink endbell looks just like a Zip Zap 2.2, and I've gotton them mixed up, when that happens I know because the 2.2 is so much slower. I find these to be about in line with the Zip Zap 2.8, but with way more power, which makes them great for dual cells. Hogjowls has said these are the best motors for dual cells, and I wholeheartedly agree with him. I bought extra cars just for the motors.

I picked one up today for $5 and the motor was a dud. I threw in a diff. clone motor and it was fast but no torque. The car handles excellent though and the range is good.

Oh yeah, my main point was (I'm out of it) the dud motor that came with it is actually labelled I-2.2 , so I would assume it is a 2.2 but the endbell isn't pink. It's off-white/ tan.

Gotta agree with Dave, the motors are much faster than a 2.2, at least a Tomy 2.2 . The range is far, far better than any MS or Tomy out there but that's typical of clones anyways. I like the tyres & wheels much better than the MS/Tomy. Fat tyres & 6 spoke wheels. The chassis in all is every bit worth the $5.00 price but the body sucks, just 2 styles. For $5.00 you get great range, straight tracking, very good steering, and a decently fast motor, along with great wheels & tyres. This has got to be the best Micro RC buy ever that I was turned on to by HogJowles over in Da Hood.

Well that's a bummer to hear. I hope that's a fluke, and not the way they are going to be, because I love those pink endbell motors.

Gotta agree with DT about dem wheels and tires. The 6-spokes rims are a nice change from the standard bit design, and the tires are wide, flat, and grippy, love 'em.

Even if you do get one with a bunk motor, you still can't beat these for 5 bucks.
