the monster and the overland are very similar in general however what they are capable of is what seperates them.
the overland is great for inside and outside (rather smooth surfaces). it is far more versatile than a racer and can do so much more.
the monster is what it is, i small scale staduim truck. what it does, it does very well and i don't hink you would be disappointed. it has greater range of outdoor surfaces that it can manage.
both are very fun to drive but you drive them for different reasons. i love to race, jump and do offroad trials with my overlands and i love to go nuts with my monster. the best is crushing xmods with it. the monster is great for larger jumps, more tricks.
i have not heard anything of a conversion kit. it would be rather simple to put together one yourself though. in the long run, you might be better off getting an overland and buying the monster parts kits to make the conversion when and if you choose to. you can always change back...

I am swayed toward the Monster only on account of the truck body, camera mount, hamster cage, Hmmmm. And the fact that it looks more stable, wider stance.
But the OV's do have more body choices right now. They are more scale.
Overall, I go with the Monster on account of my "hammerhead" driving style.
[EDIT] This for PETA, J/K on the hamster cage idea.
