They are surface mount leds that I glued onthe inside of the clear portion of the shell.

There are no extra batteries in the car. Only my 200mAh NimH, 1.3V.
I use what's called a dcdc converter that takes the 1.3V from the battery and converts it into 5V which is what I run my knight rider lights and white headlights off from. See the thread "new dual cell" in Bit Science for more info.
