Stuttering Shen?

Here's an odd one. I picked up to Shens at Kaybees on Saturday. One car is awesome. The other has this nasty stuttering problem. If the remote is within 6 inches of the car, everything works fine. Any farther away than 6 inches, and the forward, backward, left and right all start surging and stuttering. The car also has an extremely short range overall. I tried a controller from a Precious, and the same thing happens, so the problem must be in the car. Any ideas on how to fix this? I'd rather not return it, as the store was a long drive away.

I have had the same problem, it was caused by the motor. Swapped out the motor and it worked fine. After running the "bad" motor for a while it did finally start to run fine (very fast too) and never gave any problems after that. Try swapping out the motors from one to the other. If you have any other motors, try them too.

take the antenna out of the clip, thus extending it's length, and maybe range.. this worked great for me, but im thinking you probably did it already...

I already tried a completely different, and definitely working, remote. And yes, I also tried extending the antenna. I even replaced it with some CAT5 wire. The stuttering persists.

Thr car would work fine if I were to run behind it, keeping the controller within 6 inches at all times.

go into the car and pull up the pcb. you'll see a beige column with a brown center. dig out that wax and you'll see a screw. have someone holdt he forward button on the remote and walk until the car stutters. adjust the screw carefully until it runs fine and walk away again til it stutters. keep doing it until you find it's max range

No Dice. I turned the screw in the pot boths ways, far enough that the controller barely worked, and everything in between. The stuttering persists. The sum things up, I've:

1. Changed gears

2. Changed the motor

3. Changed the controller

4. Changed the battery

5. Changed the antenna

6. Adjusted the pot

7. Made sure that none of the wires are making contact where they shouldn’t, and resoldered them.

Yet Shen continues to surge in power whenever the car is further away from the controller than six inches. I can even put a meter to the motor contacts and actually watch the needle rise and dip with the surges. The front tires ratchet back and forth when I use the left and right buttons.

Come on Bit clone gurus. There must be something else I can try.
