The IR Booster works for both the standard and Special controllers...But you don't need it, people who've used the booster have found the increase in range to be VERY small and not worth the money of buying it.
Digi-Qs run on IR bands, 'frequency' is when you're talking about Radio control.

thanks..what i meant about the frequency is do you have to match the controller's signal to the car's signal? or is there some way to switch them?

All controllers, stock or special Propo have a 4-way switch to choose what ID to broadcast on.
Set the controller to the ID of the car and you're ready to roll.
