Are these really that important???
Ok I've been lokking around does it really make a difference with your gears and motor? Are gears really important or are they all the same? Do you notice any changes (considerable) when you change to different gears? If so which is the best one?

umm gears do matter like one kind gives you more torque and one more top speed and one in the middle

Gear make a subtle changes. Noticeable, but not drastic.
Motors give you drastic changes, mostly in speed, but often with more speed, you lose torque. Which is when a gear change comes in handy.

If you want to win races consistently on a variety of tracks you had better understand your gears and motors.
It's the reason these little cars are so much fun.

motors have several characteristics and they matter a lot more than gears. i fuddled around with gears for a while and concluded that the middle stock gear is the best.
the other two lose something.

Various motors and various gearsets produce different results.
Some are more desirable than others for different applications.

The only reason to get a high-torque motor is to push a low gear ratio (as low as 3.43:1 with racer gears). A high-torque car (like 12:1) is cool, but I get bored with it real fast. Check out rwinder's project. It would be fun to climb a wall!

Gears are important. You can get your 2.2 to run as fast as a 2,6 with the green gears and a 7 tooth pinion. You can definately see acceleration differences in gears. Try drving up your car up the hood of a real car. You will see that the blue gears make it easier and faster to get up there.

I only use 12:1 (blue) gearsets on my large wheelset modifications, currently my own Lego wheelset on "Rug Runner" and on "Another Monster Wheelset Mod" .
On my "Dual Cell Cyclona" I had the experience of others to help me stick with the stock (orange) gears. Good thing too, because dual cells are hellaciously fast.
(Keep the weight low and centered.)
"Missy Jo II" and my X-Men RX-8 Zip Zap
are both examples of cars that are running 8.25:1 (light green) gearsets, getting the most speed out of their standard one-battery setups.
More than likely, I'll be putting an 8.25:1 gearset on my "Silver Precious Honda".
I presented these as my own examples of the range of these little cars and what they can do.
