what is the best batt setup in terms of speed and weight for drag racing??

Should I use a LIon 3.0, laymans tricell mod, or a regular duel cell mod??? Which setup is faster ???

well with 2.4v from a dual cell its really hard to control.

a lion battery would be lighter and have more power so its gona be insane fast.

the laymans mod seems great if you are 12 and not allowed to own a soldering iron.

i would suggest just doing two nicds or nimhs since it is cheap to do and you get great performance.

I think you meant Li-Poly (not Li-Ion). This is your best size to voltage ratio, and it's also going to COST money...A battery is like $15 to $20 and the special battery for it is $40

the Laymans tricell is probably your best bet because it's small, there's no soldering and it packs a hefty punch.

yes...but

I heard the laymans tri cell was beat by a regular dual cell. If that is true I have reached a real dilema because I dont want that extra cell jutting out of the back of my car... but I dont wanna be slow. P.S. I found a Li-poly batt for 5.95 U.S. dollars. It is the same size as a quarter. And as for controling it ... I am already working on my newest set of custom tires.

dual cell

i dont know what the heck to do with a dual cell. i cant put a 2.6, the car does backflips. 1.0 is the only motor that allows me to play with the dual cell.

springs help. maybe put some more weight in the rear. also a second steering spring helps a bit.

My opinion is that keeping the weight in the "tub" is going to work best.
I added a second steering return spring and home brew suspension springs to my dual cell, and it did the trick.

I really want to do the layman's multi cell mod next.

Can some one please post a link to the duel cell mod please. I would like to attempt it tonight on one of my cars. I am waiting on another upgraded battery so I am just going to use 2 nicad's for now and will change it later.

One more thing. I took my front end apart and put it back together with some different wheels and front end of a clone and now the thing pulls left. I have tried to bend the spring because it seems that it is not centering it correctly.

THANKS!!

For Drag racing, I use a standard 3 cell in a Zip Zap or an extended Bit. You can fit all 3 cells in the belly, and it's much faster than my Layman 3 cell. It's worth it, only if you're willing to do the work. I have done Layman 2,3, standard 2,3, and 4 cell mods, and with the torque'iest motors I prefer std.3 cell. If you use a lower torque/ high rpm motor, then you may want low gears and std 4 cell. (don't expect it to last forever at 4.8v) I detest losing the hole shot off the line.

This is just what works for me. It may conflict with other peoples preferances. In an actual Bit, I have found that they are hard to handle with a 2 cell mod, with the 2nd cell in the back window. I use the bB shell and fit the other cell in the cab of the truck. You can still ride wheelies and get crazy, you just have a better handling vehicle.

Go to my site and check out my 2 second Zap video. (forgive me if I'm being redundant)

By the way, don't get me wrong...

I have a Layman 3 cell in my 350Z and love it, but I definately won't win a drag race with it. It's a great road car though.

wow

ur zip is sick fast... But I am doing a mod on a bit and I dont want to do traditional 2 cell mod cuz i want all my batteries under the body. Given a choice between laymans tri cell or what would u use??? Feel free to add your own two cents but also plz give me ur opinion on which of these two setups I should use.

I would probably try the lion because I have never done it. It sounds killer. I have heard that charging is VERY tricky though. Like you need a regulater, or something. Let me know how it goes.

I don't know if you are like the rest of these peeps and hate the bB body's, but you can do a standard 3 cell mod on a Toyota bB and fit the 2 extra cells on top of the PCB, under the cab. (right in the middle) It's a tiny bit top heavier than if you had them under the PCB, but never the less it's very controllable and VERY fast.

The Layman 3 cell is worth thinking about if you don't want to do too much to the car.
