Horrible range?...
Hey guys I got my Char-G SE Skyline in the mail today, and put in an R-Spec engine. Everything works fine and the top-end power is amazing (but I will be buying gears soon because I don't like the low-end lag ). Pic linked in the sig.
Anyways I notived the range on this thing is horrible. I mean 5-10ft if I'm lucky. Is this normal? My friend has a 350Z and he put a longer, slightly larger antenna on it, and we measure a 40ft range on it. I opened up my controller and couldn't find any capacitator. Do most Char-Gs have this horrible range stock? And with the antenna I will get great range?
Thanks for any help,
-Cyrus

my guess is that its a 27 35mhz/ lower frequencies dont travel through the air as easily. ive owned about 4 27mhz cars and all of them got 5-10 feet. this is about the 40th post that ive told people to wire a 3rd battery into the controller circuit(series). this will double the range. a longer transmitter antenna helps as well.
or you can go and try to rip things off of circuit boards and hope you dont mess up. or maybe adding "cat-5" wire will ad about 6inches of range.

Good to know. I'll also consider adding a 3rd battery to the controller, are there any write-ups on this? Today my friend is installing the thicker antenna, and when it gets home I'm dropping in a 150mAh battery as well.

they wont give you much range increase.
i dont think theres any real documentation on adding a 3rd battery but i used to have a zipzap controller with one and it really helped.

Look, Cat-5 is basically the same stuff your stock antenna is made of. What you really want to do is rig up a Mini-Z style antenna, solid core wire without insulation. Not only will this give you a cool Mini-Z look, but it will also increase your range by a significant amount. Cat-5 is mainly for letting you choose what color you want your antenna to be. Real range is in the 24 and 22 guage wire. Copper is highly recommended.
