You can use NiMH in the controller...It's just that they recommend that you DON'T use NiMH for charging.

...Since the charger is a part of the controller, that's where you get the problem.

Then again, NO ONE has tried using NiMH batteries for chargaing the DigiQ cars yet.

It could be PERFECTLY FINE to do so, but I ain't gonna be the first to guinea pig my not-so-cheap DigiQ.

I've been using NiMH to charge my little digi since day one. No problems at all.

i don't really see how they would make a difference....the only difference is that the voltage of 4 nimh's is lower than 4 alkalines....however, with alkalines, they die pretty fast and will go LOWER than nimh's...the nimh's will hold their voltage...maybe a lil higher than 4.8 for quite longer than alkalines

alkalines will drop voltage like crazy under load...(experience from micro rs4)

REPLY.....

i was talkin about putting nicads in the controller since nicads have more juice and probaly would juice up the charge giving more power to the nimh's of the diigiQ car itself..

havent tried it yet, but was wonder if it would work??

DigiQ batteries

As no one seems to know when the DigiQ charging dock will be available, this is the next best thing, assuming you have 110VAC available.

After going through a bucket of AA alkalines in the Propo Special controller, I tried an old 6VDC power supply I had hanging around.

After determining polarity with a voltmeter, I opened up the controller and alligator clipped to the battery coil springs.

I now have a steady 6.4VDC with no batteries. Everthing works fine- slightly better run time, range, consistency.

I will install a permanent mini plug/socket soon, but a quick&dirty fix would be 2 rods[dowels, etc?] each the size of 2 AA's in line, wired & glued to the ends, and just stick them where the batteries normally go. Observe polarity!

lol, i thought the same exact thing, using dowels.. I was about to post it, but decided to search if any one else done it first..

Radioshack sells a 6V 1800 mA power supply and power lead adaptaplug for $20.
