Thinking of getting a Bit Char-G....
OK I was hoping I could maybe get some info on these cars. Like whats the speed, handling, cost of hop-ups like? I was also hoping someone could tell me what motor the car has in in this video on this website? Here is the site - http://www.sigmaautomotive.com/TechieMon/bitchar-g.html Is it a 1.0 motor, 2.2 etc...?
And my final question is.... how do these compare to the Digi-Q for handling and speed?
Thanks in advance.

you don't have to worry about what motor it comes with. i would get the one that comes with 1.0 because you can run your car on table top if you have 1.0 2.2 or higher is kinda fast for table. unless you have a big table. i can run my car with 1.0 on my desk thats about 3 foot by 2 foot. oh and you can always buy faster motors. I have NEVER seen anybody sell the 1.0 motor so if you want it you should get a set that has it. thats what i did.
Digi Q are faster stock. but they don't have any hop ups. and Digi Q turn by changing the speed of the rear wheels. like a tank. the front wheels on a Q don't turn.
so its really up to your personal preferrence. if you want to upgrade, go with a Bit Char-G. if you want to keep it stock and do some donuts and stuff, get a Q. Q also cost more so you might want to take that into consideration. I was originally gonna get a Q but saw the inital price of $60 on ebay vs$30+ for a bit char-g. So I went with bit Char-G. I like the front wheel steering better. but i've never tried a Q before.

Given the small area that car is running on in the video, I'd say it's using a 1.0 motor.
As to your questions:
Speed
Depends on which car you get. Tomy has 3 different motors they put in the different models (1.0, 2.2 and 2.6). The 1.0 is slow, but good choice for very small areas (like running on a coffee table). The 2.2 has good amount more punch and is better suited for bigger areas (like the floor or small to medium tracks). And the 2.6 (only comes on the 'special edition' car kits) is a little faster than the 2.2 and gives more of a racing feel.
That's the stock motors, there's other 3rd party motors too and you can go as high as a 3.8 Motor for some CRAZY speed!
Handling
In a word, 'Jerky'. Since these cars are so small, you can't exactly put a servo in there, so Tomy uses a magnet as a means of steering. when you press the steering button to the left, it activates the coils in the steering and pulls the magnet and forces the wheels to shift in that direction.
It's crude, but it works and with some practice you get used to it.
Costs
Prices range from a few dollars up to near the cost of the car itself. But for the most part, there's a TON of stuff you can get and the prices are low enough that it won't kill ya.
Bit vs DigiQ
Ha! I'm not opening that can of worms, you can find PLENTY enough talk and comparison within these forums for that.
My recommendation to you...Go ahead and pick up a Bit, at under $40 for a full kit you won't go wrong. Also, unless you're really limited with space, get a kit with a 2.2 motor (the 1.0 is just too slow).
Good luck!

Thanks 323iT and Namuna, your advice has been really helpful.
What surfaces does everyone run these cars on? I am pretty sure it wouldn't, but would the Bit run on carpet? I am guessing the ground clearance is tiny...
What hop ups are there? How much do motors cost? Are there any sites that sell stuff for the Bit?
My final question is really to tinyrc - how much would shipping cost to send a Bit Char-G to the UK?
Thanks.

Bez, the BC-G needs a smooth surface like a table or hardwood floor. Email us for shipping costs, we're happy to ship to the UK!

Having watched a few videos of the BCG, I'm not sure I'd like the steering or not. I mean proportional steering is obviously better, but how much worse is the steering when it is not proportional? I was just thinking that it might not be very good manouvering them on a track. (I'm talking about turning into the corners properly, like hitting the apex's and stuff if you get what I mean). I mean I might get one anyway because they don't cost a lot of money.
Oh and does the Digi Q have proportional steering? It looked like it did in a movie I watched...

Hehe, the funny thing is, I am probably going to be having a new carpet soon, or a wooden floor... and at the moment I'm thinking about getting the wooden floor so I have a good surface to run the car on! I might have to have a carpet though, and I was thinking about some sort of material I could buy that would provide good enough traction, and it would need to be something that folds up or something so I can store it.

I have just visited the Bit Char-G UK website. It says that in the UK only 2 different Bit Char-G's have been released! . It says that the S2000 and Skyline are the only ones out in the UK. Is this true? I found out that Toys 'R' Us sell BCG's, so I would probably get mine from there.
Another thing - it says on the site that there is a drift set for BCG, which consists of an axle with plastic moulded tires on it. I've never heard of this drift set before, have you?

Yeah they are meant to be called Compact Char-G's in the UK I think.
The only problem I have now is I need a surface to run the BCG on, because at the moment, I have nothing. So I need something to put down in my bedroom, and then when I've finished, I need to be able to store it, so it needs to fold up or roll up or something.
Any ideas???
P.S. What does everyone run their BCG's on?
Thanks.
