How about a bar-room racing circuit?
I'm thinking a pool table would be a excellent place to set a road coarse, or high speed oval track...High grip surface, soft bumper edges to keep you off the floor. (green fuzz bad for car though)Then the bar for the drag strip. I'm thinking maybe talking a bar into letting the racers take the place over like early on a Sunday morning when they can't serve alcohol anyways, that way they can pick up a few extra bucks in the off hours, and the underage can be involved too.
Just a thought, who knows, could work in an area with a lot of racers around. I doubt it would work around here though.

We have one here in the Philly area... sort of.
We race on my bar around beer bottles and Maxim magazines.
Pool table idea is a great one though.

Over in West Phoenix. Not much happening around here. The nearby hobby store, and offroad track both closed a few years ago, part of the reason I moved away from the R/C hobby. I could see this totally working in Tempe or Scottdale, but at the corner bar across the street, I think they might laugh at me.
My ultimate dream for the pool tables is this place called Pinkies. I think they advertised something like a 100 pool tables. Be a cool place to have a "Pooltable Championship Series Finale". Seems like in a place that large you could be holding multiple races on opposite ends, and handle a large capacity.
I know it's just a dream, but it's fun to dream.

Wow, those are nice tracks, but see, the idea has been done. The internet makes it hard to ever think you have an original idea.
Those are perfect for what I'm talking about though. Makes me wish I had the money to invest starting up something like this.

Now those are the tracks I'd like to get my hands on, but damn!!!! You guys see how much they are? The one I wanted was around $750 I believe. Someone here should get into that business, but price them for what we'd be willing to pay. I'd pay $100 for the big 6' x 12' track.

Those tracks are pricey.
It would seem if you put enough time and effort though you could build one for alot less.

Bar-league
Hey,
Over here in ahwatukee / chandler / tempe we have thought about it quite a bit and were actually talking to a bar around ray+I17 about letting us take over a section of the bar every Thursday.
We were thinking about trying to get an actual inter-bar racing league going w/1st place prizes of these tiny trophies a shop down here offers for around $15/ea. And getting the Bar's to help sponsor the event, then we would also have a small pool of loaner cars for the bar groupies to use if they wanted (rent them out for a dollar for the night)
We have about 12 people interested but the manager at the bar isn't too sure about it yet. And we were talking about charging a 2 dollar entry fee.
We have it split into different freq's for each heat and running single elimination rounds since most of us have multiple cars to race.
We did take over a pool table on a couple of nights, but unless you have a VERY-well-tuned car there seems to be a LOT of friction from the felt surface.
We are looking at building a custom modular track that will break down into 3'x3' sections for easy transportation.
Got any other suggestions?

This idea is really a great one. I don't live too far from phoenix and would gladly travel to witness and partake in an invent like this. My worry is that I'll be the oldest in the room...besides the regular Norms at the the bar. I'm in my late 20's and would feel pretty strange hanging out with racers that can't even legally be there during booze time. I think you really have a great idea about renting out the cars. If you fail to find a bar, you may want to approach some miniature golf/Go-Kart parks. They're all strugglin' these days and need something like this. They'd probably even invest in having a decent size track made. If it's not about the money, let them control everything. The races, prizes, awards, trophies, money, etc... Hell, then they can also sell the Micro's on-site or just rent them out. Hop-ups, bodies, and clones.

Damn, I gotta move to AZ.
Stridex, don't worry about being too old for these things, you know how much fun it is to drive one these things down a bar at 1 AM?
Trust me it's fun, the whole place goes nuts.

See now, I pictured this thing happening in the east valley.
Thurday night is not a great one for me, got to get up early for a rough Friday at work, but you can let that bar manager know I'll be there whenever I can.
I was thinkingmaybe a vinyl roll out mat with lines painted on could be a quick track, but something modular would be a lot cooler. Having barriers, and overpasses, amd stuff like that would be cool.
I was thinking it would be cool to have several bars involved, that way you don't have to attend every event, just the ones closesest to you, but if your still trying to convince one bar, then maybe I might be getting ahead of ourselves.
Let us know how that works out. I'm kinda excited to see if it happens.
