shaft mod
i sucessfully made a shaft for my mini x that allows you to use different motors. all i need to do is make the motor mount. but before i do this i need to know what type of motor to use in it. should i stick to the 130 mini z type motors or should i go with the 180 motors? motor mounting for the 180 type motors would be alot simpler than for the 130 type. let me know what you think.

i'd love to see a picture of this.
motor size is up to you, but having 1 esc control 2 motors will limit you.

The mounting for a normal 130 and 180 size motors is the same -- the longer can on the 180 may make them harder to mount. I've used both a stock 130 and a 180 size motor in my mini-x.
I used the motor side mount from a set of dynamite rocket racer motor mounts to accomplish the same thing you're doing. They're cheap, too. I built my own chassis, so there was no problem usng them -- dunno if the same can be said for the stock chassis.

sorry for the confusion, binary terror, i am only gunna run 1 motor, and i am removing the long shaft motor. o and when i said 130 size motor i meant the mini z type or mini 4wd type that do not have the mounting holes on the shaft side of the can. illl try to post a pic tonight or tomorrow.

here are the pics, working on the motor mount plate out of an aluminum plate. should be done very soon. the pics show the finished shaft and how/where the motor will mount.

here is the 130 motor on it, all i have to do is dremel off the two posts behind the motor to fit the 180 in it.

i havent dremeled or cut anything on the chassis so far. the shaft is just piano wire the same size as the motor shaft( you can get piano wire at hobby people) to hold the shaft in the rear was tricky but the solution was so simple. i needed a flanged bearing to keep the bearing from falling out the rear. so i got an old mini 4wd motor and punched out the flanged motor bushing in it. then to make it fit in the original space where the motor sat before perfectly, i put some heat shrink around the rough edges. you could use a mini 4wd shaft i think but i dont think they make them long enough.

im about 80% done with the motor mount. its basically an L shaped aluminum plate that bolts to the 2 posts in front of motor toward the back of car. then on the L plate there is motor mount holes that the motor mounts to that allows the motor to move up and down for changing gear ratio.
