modding the gears

i was playing around and realized that if i pulled the pinion gear off the moter
and slid the gear that goes onto the car onto the moter put it all together
and it reached the gear on the axel now im not really sure about gear
ratios but i think 1 to 1 would give the best speed "someone correct me if im wrong" the first problem was the hole in the gear was to big for the moter stem so i took a sowing needle and got it hot and kind of used it as a shim
between moter and stem it works ok but the gear does wobble second it
is not very fast off the line i used the blue moter and gear because i got lots of them laying around and the good torque well like i said not fast off the line but if you give it a second to run it gets up to a pretty good speed.
well i just thought i would share my idea with you all so shout back and let me know what you think has this been tried before and im waisting time
or am i on to somthing that could rock

I wouldn't suggest it. It's fun playing with the gears and it's always good to get to know more about them, but the orig's and clones have all stuck to their style for a reason...I have to believe. Some Bensu's actually have a larger gear on the motor, but nothing even close to the size that you're talking about. Even though it's just a tad larger, you can tell some torque was suffered because of it. If you really want to mod and play with the gears, take a look at how slot cars are set up and try that route.
