The no reverse mod with switch isn't a bad mod at all. I did the no reverse without the switch and saw a little bit of difference in speed. I thought it would help bypass whatever RadioShack uses to govern the flow of electricity a lot though. It didn't. Just a tad.

Big Pimpin', you just posted the two most controversial mods out there for Zips.

I wouldn't really reccomend either one of these. The no reverse mod only helped a little. For the work it takes to add a switch and place it so it looks good, would not be worth the results. This last mod you posted is believed by some to be a hoax. I'm one that agrees it may be a hoax. Invented up by a bit lover to take a few Zips off the face of the earth. The resistor jump did absolutely nothing for me. "A lot" of others have said the same thing. Have you tried any of these?

The only Mods I'd suggest would be the PCB swap. That's a must if you ask me. It does everything the two mods you posted above are supposed to do. Increase the power to the motor. Second mod would be the Dual batt. And that's only after the swapped PCB's with a clone. After that, the only mods you'll need should be cosmetic. Find new bodies, paint your old one, lower it, raise it, add decals, etc... If someone still feels the need for mods after those three above, throw in an extra motor. Of course, everyone should do the antenna mods.

That's what I'm here for BigPimpin'.

You'll find out the PCB swap will give you twice the speed and torque any mods to the original ZZ PCB would. I can run my NOS on the carpet now. It wouldn't even take a small hill with the old PCB. And man did it take off slow before. Now it's zip zip and away!

Just make sure write down where each wire goes. So before you cut the PCB off your donor car, have a diagram of what each wire was for. The Batt + and -, the Motor + and -, the two power turning wires and left and right. Just scribble the schematic down on paper. Then remember the right dark wire on the ZZ and the light one on the left are the two that go together.

Do what I plan on doing to my next swap. Add female and male connectors. If you keep the lengths on all the wires, you'll only have to solder onto the connector. I would replace the steering wires with regular ones atleast from the PCB to the connector.

If you get a magnifying glass and look at the clone's PCB (at least the one I'm going to use for the donor), the soldering points are pretty clearly marked (L R F B). The only thing I have to watch for is witching F and R, since the controls are backward between the donor PCB and my ZZ transmitter (I want to use the ZZ transmitter).

Hope this helps...and also thanks to Stridex and alot of others on this board. Lot of knowledgeable ground breakers here.

Also kudos to the board admins for not locking every thread that seems to be a repeat. I find that even if something has been discussed, there may be someone out there with a new idea.

Case in point...while discussing whether I should use one clone or another for my PCB swap (which I haven't done yet, my daughters just seem to want too much of my time these days), Stridex had mentioned a few parts from an old CD-ROM drive that would be really cool to make these even more "swappable", and damn, I am now rummaging all over the place for parts. I think I found a really good receiver antenna wire from a length of front door bell wire....solid copper, and not TOO stiff )

Customized Tires

all you basically do is:

-find a pen wit a grip
-cut grip size of the old tire
-put on wheel

i still dont see why you guys just wont use a bit or a clone. they are always going to be faster than a zipzap. and with a 1.59 mod they steer just as well.

I have a clone

Reasons why i use it as a part car:

- when yo tap a wall you have to take it apart to get it to work again
-stearing is always broken
-no reception

But my clone is faster
