duoble battery mod...without the battery stickin out...!
I did my 2 battery mod a while ago...but having to cut out my old chassis back window to make the battery stick out was not cool nor did it look cool...and besides that having a battery on the top of your car seriously raises the center of gravity makeing the car more prone to fliping.
Well after long hours of grinding with my dremel I got the 2nd battery into the chasis (a lot of modifying!!!) and now it is totaly sweet. The car is as fast as before I can use normal chassis(no battery stickin out) and the center of gravity is even better that before the mod was done...more weight on bottom of the car lowering the center of gravity...now the car is liek a dream and looks normal...
I would love to post pics and if you have any questions ask...but I have no camera...

I'd like to see that thing. You need to ask Santa for a digital camera!
Where did you get the extra battery and how/where did you tuck it?

Imagine that bad boy with a clones PCB. I've found that almost every single clones PCB board will increase this mods power. Plus their PCB's are a lot smaller and leave a lot of room for that second battery without the need of a dremel. You think it's fast now...head over to Autozone, pick up one of those clones and put that PCB in. I couldn't believe it myself. It doubled my speed!

3cell with MS pcb
HOLY MOLY! Just finished putting a MS PCB in a Zip chasis with 3 cells under the hood. With a NOS motor and green gears it's a rocket. Definitely gonna have to step down on the motor or work with my experimental turbo delay module to control this thing. Anyhow, I put a thin coat of Krazy Glue on the front tires and it works downright awesome. I can pull mad controlled powerslides on my kitchen floor, and the front end pushes on my track instead of flipping the car. I've heard of guys putting tape on the front tires, and I did that...and it worked too, but the Krazy Glue does the same thing and it's much neater.

Any cheap clone will work. I heard, but haven't seen, them at WalMart. The easiest place to find them just might be autozone. They're $20, very fast, but the quality of the body, controller, chassis, wheels....well, everything except the PCB sucks on the thing. The PCB was put together pretty good. If you want one of the best clones for a great price, I went to microrcimports.com. I think my total came to $19 including shipping. They're called LXX Char-g's. It's actually a good car so I haven't actually swapped out the PCB from it yet. The controller is pretty neat with a wind-down antenna. Cool thing is you have choices of more then two frequencies. If you want one now, go to autozone if all you want is the PCB or Walmart since I heard those are only $10 and actually pretty good. If you can wait, I'd say get a LXX.

Hi peeps,,
I suggest you try one of the clones with the round controller from the bullet clones. The round Tx seems to have the best range IMHO, if you're modded zip is really picking up speed, you don't want it to zoom out of range! I have a preference for Panthers or Shen Qi Wei clones, so you should look for these to do your mod, they worked great for me.
Tomy,Micro Q, LXX all the little square Tx usually have a cripple cap
hidden somewhere, and the range wasn't impressive.
So if you use the round controller, you don't have to do all the range mods for the little square controllers. 8-)

for what it's worth...
Also...The Panther and Shen Qi Wei clones also work on the OEM ZZ controller. I didn't like the feel of the round ones, so that was a definite plus.

I can't believe I almost forgot about the Z-cars sold at the Discovery Zone store. That's the one I actually swapped out and if cutting off it's cripcap will give me more range....wow. I'll have to look into it. The only reason I suggest going after a 2nd tier clone, rather then the 3rd tier dome ones at like Autozone are because you can actually use most of their parts. The LXX comes with a 3.0 motor too and the z-car comes with an LED. As long as they're the same frequency, your ZZ controller will work. My LXX is 57 Mhz, but I can't see why a 27mhz or 49mhz wouldn't work with my ZZ controller.
I should be getting my clones from sharper image on Monday (crosses fingers). These are the same size as ZZ's and if the PCB is any better, I'm probably going to leave their electronics alone. Maybe this will be a clone for those that like ZZ's handling, but don't want to do any soldering to replace it's PCB. The body styles are very cool as well. A Hummer and a Chevy SSR.

I got it for $19 which included shipping and everything. Here's where I went - microrcimports.com. He just changed his website it looks like.

Yes, but I wouldn't! There's a car at WalMart in the matchbox isle that's called Die-Cast Stunt Car or something like that. They're $5 US and have the best battery you can buy. Pick up two of them. They are Ni-cd's/50mAh's. I don't understand that terminology. All I know is they last forever (20-30 minutes run times) and turn my cars speed WAY up! I doubt you'd find a better price for those even by themselves. Maybe online, but the shipping would knock the price upto about the same.
