Custom wheels
Well, this is my first mod
It's my mod.
I replaced the stock wheels with a par of rubber rings.
On the test drive: Faster acc, faster speed, greater stering.
The rubber: well it's not medium, not hard, but some where in the middle, and it's GREAT!, I can do some cool slides.

Contact Patch
The reason for ypur performance differences is that you now have a very small area where the tires are touching the road surface, called "contact patch". Your setup typically gives faster accelleration and quicker steering responase because there is less resistance caused by the tires. However, this comes at an overall sacrifice in handling performance, as you don't have as much grip while turning, which is why you can do the cool slides.
See what happens when you put the stock tires on the back, and your mod tires on the front. I bet you'll get less fishtailing than 4 mod tires, the same quick steering as 4 mod tires, and maybe a little quicker accelleration than 4 stock tires.

Would the grip get better if there was 2 of those rubber rings per rim? One on the inside, and one on the outside?

Sounds like a good idea, except that it would be really hard to put on the rim because the band is larger than the width of the tire.

xatu, I can't get the rubber ring to stay on the outside of the wheel. you will have to glue them.
Ovgron, it's O rings
MTL, I think that they are used to water proof someting, or something like that.
