charge time, please help!!!
Hi every one. Iv been a lurker here for a while now and this board is full
of great info for those of us who do not have a degree in electrical
engineering but there are still some questions that have not been coverd
yet and i feel should be added to the stickys thread dealing with charge time.
I have two zz and want to do the dull batt mod. and i know how to mod the controller but im not sure how long to charge the car for with two stock
batteries. Im also interested in the dc to ac charge mod for the controller.
How will that affect my charge time?

I haven't done these mods myself, but I have just ordered the batteries to start.
I found all the info necessary to do this by searching on "Dual AND battery AND mod".

Hope this helps.
jeez...I hope that didn't sound too much like the "other" board.

Need more info to answer your questions. Are you hooking the batteries in series for more power, or in parallel for longer run time? And, what are the specs on the ac charger you plan on using to charge the car, IE, VDC output, and amperage?

I will be hooking the batteries in series for higher top speed, hopfully im kind of nervis after reading what stridex had to say. but anyways i was going to use the parts in stickys to up grade the controller charger but im more concerned right now about charging off the controller itself since that is what i have available to me now.

Well, I think you may have a problem. If you put another battery in there in series, you have the same amperage and double the voltage. The controller charger won't do it. If they were in parallel, you could double charge. But in series, you need to double the voltage going to the car batteries. One solution would be to hook the power leads coming from the batteries inside of the controller directly to the charge pad. You still need to power the PCB in the controller, so solder new pos. and neg. leads directly to the charge pad and manually charge for 45 seconds or so. If your new car batteries have higher amperage as well, you'll need to lengthen the charge time.
If you look at microrcmods.com (i hope that's right) you will see a spiffy little tutorial on making a stand alone charger that will charge two batteries in series.
