slot car motor?
i was just down in the basement, looking to see if any Tyco slot car parts would fit on my Skylines, when it dawned on me; why dont i just Frankenstien the whole motor setup in?
i know it could be done (especially on a bus) but im wondering what kind of battery i would need to power such a beast.
Somebody please tell me
is this is a good idea?
could it really be done?
am i just getting excited over nothing?

The slot car motor is probably as large as the Bit's PCB, and about as thick as the diameter of front wheels of a bit. The motor would also require alot of current and probably around 9 volts to run. I am talking about H.O. scale slot car motors.
So my opinion if its worth anything to you is its an interesting idea, but wouldn't work.

You can probably use this motor on a scratchbuilt project. If you still have the transformer from the slot car set, see what the voltage output is. It should be around 9 volts.

I got a generic $10 bit- thing for the steering spring. It's a little big compared to others, but hey- it's for parts.
It uses two motors- one for steering and one for movement, and I got an idea- make a tank-steer type stomper with 2 motors. I wired it up, and it does have enough power to turn the stomper motors, when run by a test AA battery. I'm thinking that a slot car motor may work, but they usually run on much higher voltage.
Plus, it probably will only give you about 1min run time unless you get some big honking batteries.
I'll try and post something on the stomper, once it's a bit more than a pile o'parts.

I was wondering about this myself. I posted about it a while ago and someone said that it runs on 12V.
What I would do is cut the front off of the slot car chassis and glue on the front of a ZZ or Bit chassis. So now you have steering and lots of motor.
Fit the PCB and a small battery in there mostly for steering, and wire the steering part. Then wire the motor leads through a 12V battery (possibly with a transistor) to the slot car motor. I don't know how you'd charge it, but for drag racing I think it would just about always win. I also don't know how you'd get everything to fit. Let me know if you pull it off, I'd love to see it. I don't have any slot cars, and I doubt that I'll buy one just to cut apart, so I doubt I'll be trying this one. Good luck!
