layman's mod- 5 cell- 6 volts- VIDEO

As suggested in a response to my 4 cell mod in my zipzap I have tried a 5 cell mod in another zipzap. (same body of pt crusier though) I have the same pcb swap from a fitracer as well and even same 23,000 rpm motor. The only difference is the frequency and that I left the stock blue gears in. I need to try the red gears when I get a chance. Anyways this mod would be the ultimate mod excecpt for the run time.

Runtime
Its runs for about a 1 and 30 seconds. But the last 30 seconds the batteries are really being drained quickly.

Handling
I noticed everything that was said about this mod about the car flipping over less and handling better (in the video I was still adjusting to the speed). I also think that since its not heavy like my 4 cell mod http://www.tinyrc.com/forums/showthr...&threadid=7120
its definally accelerates faster and has a faster top speed than then my 4 cell and even with the blue gear on this car. The 4 cell has red gears.

Modifications
I did not even have to make any solder connections with this mod. All I did was purchase those batteries and bent then to fit.

I originally had tried to use the whole 6 cell pack (7.2 volts) but once I had charged them the car did not respond to the controller. I believe that the chip on the pcb has some sort of safety to shut off if a certain amount of volts goes throught it. I made sure these was no shorts and then connected the pcb wires to a single 1/4aaa battery and the car immeadly responded. I guess I have to find some sort of mini relay if I want to go over the 6 volts. If you have any ideas please let me know.

Also if you got a faster car post a video so we can see it.

Looks like you cannot see the batteries behind the two front ones because of the electral tape. If you try this mod on a zipzap there are two batteries in the front and two directly behind it. Finally the last one is bent upwards laying flat.

I was looking around the forum and found this link http://www.geocities.com/wdiaz03/minidragster.html . I havent spoken to this person but seems like he really knows his stuff. He has bypassed the pcb to push more volts to the motor directly using a transistor.

How's the body shell holding up on that thing? You know, since you are running into the wall and stove at about 25 mph! Very nice speed; are those batts rechargable, though, or do you have to toss them every time?

Now that's the speed Zip Zaps should go. I think that PT Crusier body needs a custom paint job.

Thanks. Yeah the body does need a custom paint job. I only choose the pt crusier since it had a little more space than any of the other bodies I saw. The bodies are surprisely strong.

This is actually one of two pt crusiers that I own. They both have multi battery mods. The other one has a 4 cell 1/4 aaa.

The batteries in both cars are rechargable. The one in this one uses the smaller button nimh batterys that were refered to me by the the laymans mod. I found out that the allelectronics place the sells them are only minutes away from my work.

I am now working on bypassing the 6 volt barrier that I ran into by using a transistor the was used in the dragster link that I posted.

Does anyone have a good way to measure the actual speed of these little cars? I wish it went 25 miles per hours but I dont think it does. I thing a jump from 2 to even 20 is impossible with that mod I did?

I did the 3 cell and the zip has amazing speed. Try using a turbo or lower motor. The blue motor runs at 3.0 speeds with this mod. The only draw back I've had was run times of about 5 mins the last 3 slowed down. The weird thing is that if I let it sit for a minute the voltage is back for another 1-2mins, I haven't figured it out yet. What I plan to do next is bend up another 3 cells and attach them parallel to the others and see if I can't get a 3.6v 80 mah bat That should take care of some of the run time issue. I think this has got to be one of the best mods out there, easy and worth while.

I just found out its only a 21000 rpm motor, the red one. And I havent noticed the motor getting hot at all. Well I only make like 3 runs in a row max.
