Good setup (!!!first post!!!)

First post here...
(I'm usually at minizracer.com)

I've heard that this car would be a good choice for me, because I've had a Mini-Z (which recently got toasted). Are there other cars I should consider?

This will probably be my setup:
(if more than one, which would you suggest?)

ESC: Novak Spy or Team Orion Flash or ES-01

Receiver: (can someone see if this will fit in? I already own it) Futaba 1.9"x1.25"x0.6"

Servo: which would you suggest?

I have everything else, but where do you suggest I order this stuff (including the basic kit) within the U.S. so I can get shipping insurance?

hi,

I got my MID from dinball online store in HK to US. It only takes a few days. Best of all, they have it in stock. Even though you have to pay international shipping, it still cheaper than the US retail price. Regarding your setup, I would get Hitec HS-85MG micro servo, hi speed & torque. I got Novak spy esc too. It looks very good and compact. I believe your Futaba will be okay but it depends on your body choice though.

Would it fit under the RX-7 shell? If I think it looks ugly when I get it, I'll try to use my Mini-Z CLK body... would that fit?

Here's my reconfigured M24 Mid. Originally, it was equipped with a Hitec Shredder AM receiver, modified ES-01, and a GWS Pico servo. If you search the forum, there's a thread with pictures of it. I replaced the electronics with the following: Hitec HS-55 servo, KR297 FM receiver, and a Novak Spy ESC.

I also replace my "Homemade Ballpen Spring Servo Saver" with a commercially available Du-Bro servo saver. I also replace the stock tie-rods with Kawada's SP Tie-rod set.

Here's the Du-Bro servo saver. It comes with soft and hard springs so you can adjust the tension.

Your receiver should fit. However, if you want to use the shorter wheelbase bodies (I use the RX-7) it will probably be a good idea to get the SP Tie-rod set or the Front Side Tie-Rod set so you can move the servo forward. If you use the servo saver, you will get by with a smaller servo without worrying about stripping the gears. Plus, you save space and weight. The Du-Bro saver is a big, big, big improvement over my improvised servo saver.

FYI, my Mid uses a Kyosho Mini-Z ball diff, bearings, front axles, Square rims, and a homemade suspension plate. Motor is the stock can with with ball bearings and an NML armature.

They only think I don`t like is that feather lite servo. I and running a GW servo micro without a problem. But I did not want to go that small.

I was considering a Hitec HS-81MG servo but after installing the servo saver, I saw no need. However, a metal geared servo plus the servo saver will definitely eliminate gear stripping by 99.99%

That's so sweet! Why did you get that servo clamp thing again? Could I use it with the HS-81MG or whatever? That servo saver system is awsome! I could probably use the springs and bushing things from my E-Maxx gear shifting servo. Where'd you get it, and how much?

Thanks Billiam.

I made the servo clamp out of copper strips to help hold the servo in place. I figure double sided tape won't be durable enough for where I race (www.connecticutspeedway.com) -- same reason for the servo saver.

You can check my home made version at www.hobbyshoponline.net/donutsrc.htm.

You can get the servo saver at towerhobbies for $1.65/set.

Why do you need it especially where you race? Are the walls extra strong? yuk, yuk, yuk,... where can I get the M-24 cheapest in the U.S.? (and hop-ups, 180-size motor,...) Does the servo saver system hold in the turns? Are the springs hard enough?

How do you think your setup compares to those with the Kawada-made system of electronics?
