did the dual cell mod - a few questions from a newbie here

ok i got two 120mah 1/3 aaa batts from QFM to fit inside the chassis, lots of dremeling (you can see the sides of the batteries through the chassis just above the charger clip holding area (for lack of a better name) but they fit just fine - had some trouble with the wiring - got it working - my question is how do i tell if i fried a cell? i may have left the iron on the cell too long - it made a small hissing sound - i also did the charger mod so i get 3.0V from the remote - charge for 3-4 min and i get around 3-4 min of full speed runs - this is with a 3.8 pink motor and green (high speed) gears - oh this is a microsizer btw - how can i tell if i fried the cell - it seems to work ok - i just want more runtime from a 4 min charge

its like freaky fast, i have to use soft tires up front and stock in the rear - it spins from a start without steering - with stock front tires any touch of any direction sent the car rolling end over end - now i get picture perfect high speed drifts - its so fast its unbelievable - im thinkin of getting the dB body and poppin a third cell in there above the circuit board

this is awesome - all credit goes to this board too btw or tinyrc.com - i showed up some zip zaps - they didnt even want to race me after they saw that i spin the tires - this was with one nimh and a 3.8 in a very small room - they all want some now

Well, if the car is faster, then the cell sounds like it is working. If it was fried, it would kill or at least impair the circuit.

oh ok - yeah i think its good - i just dont know about these tiny cells - um i did the separate charger mod - with 4 aa's i charge for 2 min and get like 7-9+ min with 3.8, high speed gear (yeah i timed, this is full speed as much as possible, with lots of turns, i stop the timer when it slows during turns, still works for another 4-5+ min) also when i charged for 2 1/2 min the bottom of the car was warm - this is bad right? i should stick with 2 min? makes sense to me

Hi PhillyB!

I think your battery is good too.

I charge my 2 cell with 3.6 volts for about 3-4 minutes, sometimes longer but like you said the bottom gets warm.

If one of your batteries was bad your circuit would not have continuity and the car would not work. Also you should try the 3.8 on 6 volts of juice. With the transfer gear off it sounds like a dentist drill at high speed

U can actually fit 2 extra batteries in the bb body, but u have to remove the PCB cover or else they won't fit. So its possible to do 3-4 battery mod with dremeling.

I prefer using the 2.2 engine over the 3.8 engine in my dual battery bb because the 2.2 engine has crazy torque. It flies over carpets, and with the grey "dirt" tires from the tire set it is my rally car heheh.

well i was tryin to make the fastest car possible when i started, so using the fastest only made sense - i now run a 1.0 and its wicked fast no matter what gearin i use - btw i strapped a few pennies to the back of my dB body and any gearing i get wheelies but with the lower power gearing (blue i think) i get like wiked wheelies - if i hit reverse and get some speed then hit forward it launches a huge wheelie and if i hold forward it does donuts while doing a huge wheelie - and i can hold it like that in place for a long time till the batteries wear down - i cant wait to get a 1.6 motor - qfm was sold out when i ordered and refunded my money (wish they had kept my money and just sent it when it came in but oh well) - also i did all those drillings and lost a gram but get this - when i put the pennies on another body (pennies lower in the body for a lower cg) it handles great (kills runtime though) with alot of speed - as if it needs to be heavier to stick
