Subaru vs. 911 GT (fitting)

I went to a local Hobbytown USA to pick up a dNaNo for a friend of mine who is out of state on vacation... my friend wanted the Porsche full chassis kit, but they didn't have any in stock, but they had Porsche Autoscales (AS) in stock as well as other "full" cars... (the Subaru to be exact.) Since the dNaNos come with the AS and the chassis in two different boxes, the guy at the store (trying to be as helpful as possible) swapped out the AS Porsche with the Subaru AS that was in the chassis kit... as both of the chassis are RM chassis. But I've gone to Kyosho's fitting list on their japanese site and there seems to be some parts discrepancies between the two... nothing major from what I can tell, but if anyone with both the Subaru and the Porsche available to them to do a test fit for me to see how "off" the two are (putting the porsche body on a Subaru chassis) I would GREATLY appreciate it... My friend was so elated about finding the Porsche that I didn't think any further of it other than they both said RM chassis on the box...

Qon, that includes you... since I know you have every one of the dNaNos in your personal collection... LOL

post a pic if you can and if there are differences can you point them out

I think that if the body "fits" on the chassis, he'll be happy... but if it's WAY off, we'll have to figure out something

Thanks

Check here they have both measurments. You will need to get the parts set for which ever body you choose to use.http://tinyrc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24053

Thanks, but they only show overall length and width... not wheelbase and track of the chassis itself....

I know they made the dNaNos so that they are completely scale, but I was hoping that in this case, we didn't have to worry about the body fitting, and buying the extra parts to do so..

I feel we got a great price on the car itself, and I would hate to have to spend a LOT more to make the body fit properly and put a damper on the deal we got..

I think the price of the fitting kit is pretty high (sometimes and some places more expensive than the Autoscales themselves)

technically I COULD just open the box and test fit it myself, but I didn't want to open his "present" before he did...

but it looks like I'm going to have to

You need to buy the fitting kit. It is fairly inexpensive, and really your only option.

you call nearly $40 for just he fit kit inexpensive?

I guess it's all relative, but that is not inexpensive to me...

but outside of returning the kit, or calling on some favors from Kyosho (my friend works for a VERY popular RC magazine) I guess getting the fit kit might be our only option...

Yes they are expensive. But they last A LOT longer than the polycarbonate bodies on 1/10 scale cars. You have to be ready to spend about $80 for body + fitting set. I like my Lamborghini so much that I bought another one in different color and it cost me $33. So once you get your favorite body you don't have to get another fitting set unless you get tired of the body. You can always sell the unused body and the fitting set to get some money back... But the Lancer or Subaru bodies are the least popular ones...

take a look at the latest optional parts and technical data sheet @ the kyosho dnano support page. it has the specs of each chassis listed so... you really don't need to buy the fitting parts kit to change from one car to another. you just need to buy the parts that are different on the 'subuaru' and exchange them for the corresponding parts of the 'porsche' chassis. since i'm out in my wife's village with not much else to do until tomorrow when i get back to the shop, let's take a closer look at the parts you're going to need:

DNX402W OR DNX402S required (of course)
DNM402 = Porsche 911 GT3 Body Mount
DN014-01/DNW109-01 = Rear Wheel Hubs (Subaru uses -02)
DN013-01/DNW104-01 = Front Suspension Plates (Subaru uses -03)
DN015-A = Tie Rod (Subaru uses C)
DNH001S-19R = Rear Wheels (Subaru uses 18's)

that's it... everything else between the 2 cars is the same. use the OP&TD sheet to make changes from one car to another without having to buy the fitting parts. but if you're into having spare parts, go ahead and get it cuz you may be able to build a whole new car by just buying a new body if you have all the needed parts. that's how i built my F40... didn't get any fitting parts, just broke down 2 cars and used what i had to make one car i wanted.

NOTE: the fact that the HTUSA employee just threw any chassis in with a 911GT3 body just shows how little they know or care about dNano.... but i won't get on my soapbox this time :P

So is it much cheaper to replace indivisual parts? With the fitting kit you get free wheels and tires, don't you?

Wheels, yes... tires.. no... all the tire size seem to be the same... you just stretch the tires onto the bigger rims if you have to (which helps them to stay on better anyway)

I know... but it was the cheapest "walk-in" shop that had the dNaNos... they were only $139.99 plus $5 for spending over $100... I figured that way I'd save on shipping.... $148.15 after tax is a pretty good deal if don't mind picking form the stock on hand....

but if this other location that we deal with here in southern California will match the price on a compete 911GT3 (they most likely will) then I'm going back to tonight to return the dNaNo I bought... and let him buy from the other spot

I just wish I could afford another one for myself (my friend was paying me back for the one I got for him because the store is closer to me) or else I would have bought the white Subaru they had in the case as my second... but I hope to still convince the wife to let me get it (I have the 787B as my "race" car but I REALLY like how the Sube looks with the race wheels mounted)

I will pass on the info about the parts for the conversion... thanks for your help

BTW Qon,

If you're still bored with nothing to do... LOL.. can you list the parts I would need to switch a 787B to a Subaru?.... I'm sure I'll need to entire fit kit but it would be nice to know the exact parts I need in case

EDIT** never mind... I figured it out... it will cost me 29.93 plus tax and shipping (unless I will-call the parts) to change my 787B to a Subaru for the days I want to run a non-race showroom stock fun session..

I save about $8 over buying a fitting kit
