Removing Taillight Paint: Tips?
Thinking about adding a sweet LED mod for heads and tails. I have a Honda Silver s2000, and like others, the taillights are painted opaque red. Does anyone have any experience/luck scraping or sanding this paint off to get to the clear plasitc? I saw a mod (QFM?) about this and using a clear red hobby paint afterward, but wondering if anyone has tried this.
I also might try to scrape the wide trunk break light. You know, that long skinny thing that runs along the back edge for that whole "break light in your face" look? Anyway, it's mighty thin, and the tails are pretty small. Wondering about best technique. I am thinking solvents are too easy to screw up, and a stray x-acto is going to seriosly scratch the body. Any ideas?

get a sharp hard object like a dentist tooth cleaner and scrape it off, slowly.

Smooth sandpaper - 600 grit or higher. Carefully sand off the paint on the taillights.
Apply paint thinner carefully over the tail lights and use some thing to peel of the paint without ruining the body.
Use clear red paint and apply it to the headlights. If you can dremel a slot for the LED then this is not even needed, just stick the LED as close as possible to hide the un-red lights.

just file them out!
hey there. I love skylines and when i got my R34 the lights in the back didn't look right with out one being red and one being yellow. So i took a small round file and filed it out. i replaced the holes with some left over peices from a semitruck kit. The little round lights that would be used for the side of the truck. it worked out great espeically the outside red on is bigger than the yellow one. so if you have the guts. file them out and then replace it with peices of coloured plastic.
yours, Eric
