New Bit

I just got my first Bit (they Skyline set), and I have to say I'm less than impressed. My experience with micros has been with Zips, and other than a few quality issues, I've had lots of fun with the Zips. On the whole, they run as advertised.

I'm hoping, maybe I just got a bad one, or someone can help me fix it, but the problems I'm having are when turning, the car stutters badly, and sometimes just stops. I then have to move my remote all over the place before the car will work again. I have fresh batteries in the remote, so it shouldn't be that. I've tried a couple of sets, and it's the same all the time.

I have a hard time charging the car, and I have to take the car on and off the charger until I finally get the charge light. The range on these are very limited as well, well short of the zips. Lastly, when the car is running, it is very slow out of the box. I know that there are lots of mods out there, but this thing is super slow. I have the orange gears and the light blue motor.

I got an Enertec the same day, and the Enertec runs circles around the bit. The Enertec is pretty fast, but difficult to control, because the steering mechanism causes me to do donuts all the time.

Hopefully someone here can give me suggestions on how to smooth out the Bit, but right now I'm disappointed with it. Thanks in advanced.

1. The skyline set comes with a 1.0 motor...That's why your car is so slow!
2. The stuttering could be a few things:
a. Check that the motor connections are good
b. Check that the antenna solder point is solid and not frayed or broken (thereby causing intermittent reception and causing stutter)
c. Check the battery connections
d. Is the Tx antenna extended all the way?

You can try squeezing a ZZ motor into the Bit, but I don't recall if you'll be able to do it (I don't think so), otherwise you'll need to find a faster Bit Motor.

Good luck! I also have the Skyline set and I LOVE the detailing for the bodies.

OK, I got to playing with my Bit a little more, and here's what happened. The car seems to work better when I point the antenna on the remote at it, and the range on it is very short, before I get that stutter problem again. I'd say the range is about 2 to 3 feet. It also works a little better when I make the antenna wire on the car stand up straight.

I've just bought another Bit. Hopefully, that one performs a little better. The little car bodies are cool, but if the car doesn't perform all that great, these things will be destined for a box in my closet somewhere. It won't be worth it to me to get upgrades for it.

After looking around this and bitpimps forums some more, I got around to modding the bit a little. I put in a ZZ red motor, which fit after playing around with it. It doesn't fit perfect, but it does fit, and work well. I also removed the crippling capacitor from the transmitter and the car.

Removing the capacitor from the car made me a bit nervous, since I'm a novice at soldering, and I didn't want to get any stray solder on other components, but I did the best I could, and it worked.

With the ZZ red motor, and the cripplling capacitor removed, the car runs much better. I still like the ZZ's better, but at least I like my bit now. The bit steers better than the ZZ's, and isn't as prone to spinning out of control like my ZZ's. It also seems to run faster than most of my ZZ's with the red motor (but not my "Cars" chassis zips).

Now I have a question. After looking around the forums, I found a lot of people think the best motor for the bit is the Perfection 3.8. Where can I get it? Also my zip bodies seem to have clear headlights and tail lights, which are just begging to be lit up. Are there any easy ways to put lights there? Thanks in advance for all of your help. You can squeeze one in there, but you;ll have to sand down the end bell a bit. The ZZ motors have a nub on there. Sand it flush, and you're good to go.
