No one likes to chase after over turned cars. It's much more fun to try to bump it back onto its wheels using another Xmod. So I picked up an F150 with the intent to make it a "wrecker" of sorts. Nothing complicated (like a winch), just a glorified bumper car.
I used
Azimov's post to add a couple of flashing lights. I used a 20 pin IC socket to avoid soldering on the IC, and a 20 pin DIP PCB from radio shack. The package fits nicely under the bed cover after a little bit of dremel work on the wafer.
I added four wheel drive and locked the rear differential. Still to do, add some kind of foam rubber to the bumpers so paint jobs don't get all messed up, and due to the top heaviness, add some ballast to the truck. Since space is limited and the center of gravity needs to be low, I need to use a heavy metal. Lead would be easiest, but I don't like the idea of using toxic metals (no I don't plan on eating it). I'm thinking about using
bismuth instead, since it's non-toxic and about as heavy as lead (it has the highest non radioactive atomic number).
In the dim photo it looks like the lights are on at the same time. They're not, that's just from the slow shutter speed of the camera in the dim conditions.
