best combo
I viewed chilies website and I am still confused. The green MT gears are used the most for the 4th gear mods. However, would orange MT gears and a zz blue gear create a sufficient enough crawler? Whats the best combo for speed and torque? The biggest confusion is the gear ratio. The lower the gear ratio, the less torque but more speed the MT gets? The pinion gear from a regular zz would provide more speed as far as I understand. There are so many things and options that I am just super confused and frustrated.
Tanks and sorry for the nube question.

It may be a newb question, but it is pretty valid if you're like young or haven't had much in the way of math classes.
First off: A single "Best Gearing" for every situation simply does not exist.
With gearing you trade Torque and Speed. The same motor can be made very FAST with very LITTLE torque; or it can be made very SLOW with a HUGE amount of torque.
Is your ZZ-M fast enough with any of the available 4 gear ratios? (If yes, stop.)
Is your ZZ-M slow enough to be controlled through technical terrain, or torquey enough for climbing your obsticles? (If yes, stop.) The ones you're referring to on Chili's page slow it down so it can climb more.
High and Low with gear ratios can both mean opposite things. "geared for high end" - fast. "lots of low end grunt" - slow. "this is a numerically high ratio" - slow. You get the point, must be specific when talking about these.
As for your Orange zz-m with a blue idler, I'll walk you through the math if you find how many teeth are on them. (I forget, I'm lazy, and I'm tired)
Anyway, I know this did NOT answer all your questions, but it's a start, and I'm tired of typing.

Thanks for your help. I knew the basics of trading speed for torque and vise versa, but I just wanted to hear a second opinion. Anyways, I just finished the 4th gear mod and I used the red motor with orange MT gears along with the regular zz green gear. Its fast enough for my enjoyment but still has the ability to climb over objects. It may sound weird but with all of the geared motors Iv build in my 17 years of life, the gear ratio was never a concern to me and I never got around to learn how to figure all that stuff out. One more question and ill zip it up: Will a stock ZZ MT (non modified at all) spin itself around while i am holding one of its tires? or will it not.
This modifying of the zz MTs is getting pretty addicting. No wonder this forum has been around for a while.

Ok, so you're running:
Red motor with _____
(stock white zz-m pinion? 7 teeth)
ZZ green idle 18 / 7 teeth
ZZ-M orange idle 32 / 11 teeth
ZZ-M orange axel 39 teeth
pinion to green idle 2.57:1
green idle to orange idle 4.57:1
orange idle to axle 3.54:1
Final drive ratio: 41.576:1
You are slightly faster than if you'd used a Red ZZ idler and the green ZZ-M (53.97:1). and MUCH slower than the stock gearing (23.99:1)
As for the box-stock ZZ-M doing torque loops holding the rear axle, generally not but I've noticed that these things are not all the same, RS doesn't have the best quality control over their components...

Thanks,
I actually completed 5 gear mod and added a second orange gear. The truck runs fine but i stil cant enjoy it bacause of the short battery life.
