1. For the 5th cell:
- Soldering iron, or gun (and solder)
- Some sort of quick disconnect that would work with your 18 gauge wire
- Hot glue gun
- Heat shrink tubing (highly recommeded)
2. Rayovac IC-3's are the battery of choice for a lot of people on this site, you need the charger to go with the batteries. RS sells IC-3's under their own brand name (more expensive though). I know that Wal-Mart sells the 4 bank charger, and I think the AAA's (they're pretty hard to find). If you had to, you could buy them online @ www.microcenter.com.
3. I assume you know that RS sells rims. Check out this site, at the bottom it has the e-mail of a guy selling aluminum rims.

The S1 motor kit will give you the option of running motors with different pinions for different gear ratios.
The starter kit only comes with a Stage 1 drift motor, which is the torquiest motor available from RS, also the slowest motor as far as peak RPMs.
I would say, your money wasn't wasted.
craftsman, on this forum, sells aluminum wheels compatible with Xmods. Find him and give him an email.

Actualy according to this post the stage 2 motor can spin faster and can make more torque than the stage 1. The only advantage is that the stage 1 draws fewer amps.

These quick disconects are the ones I got. There are better ones, like Deans connectors, but you have to get them online...I think.
For Mini-Z wheels you'll need to modify them to work. BC has a tutorial located here that describes how he modded some wheels he got at his LHS to work with his XMod.

Meh, too much info to read - not in the mood at the moment :P
I don't see how a motor with so many more winds(85 compared to 49) will make less torque than a motor with far fewer winds. Given they are using the stock pinions. If the tests show otherwise(I didn't read through, nor open the pdfs), I would say one or more of the motors used were flawed.

The only other conceivable differences must be the wire gauge and/or the magnets.

Magnets are the same.
There is a wire difference, 32 on the S1s and 30 on the S2s. I positive thats not enough of a guage difference to put the S2 further in torque than the S1 considering the 35 turn difference.

They might be a little big to fit under the car, but if they fit then use them.
