We finally finished our 40MPH XMODS Dragster Project! We just tested using a Tamiya 4WD Speed Checker last night and posted 44.1MPH!

Here's a suggestion on that video, xmodSpeed. To add validity to the display of speed, make a video of a run in between two points of a known distance(i.e. across tennis court, basketball court, etc.) and have the camera in clear view of both points so that one could use a stopwatch and undoubtedly know where to start and stop the time. The math can be done to find out your land speed, AND it's a great reference for online drag racing competitions! Just a thought. Sound fun?

Definitely sounds fun. We are doing a similar test to try and accuratize the dyno. We plan to mark out 1" increments on a floor for about 4-5 feet. Then we will run a car full speed and take video. Then I will view the video frame-by-frame and calculate the average distance travelled per frame. Multiply by 30 (30fps) then convert to MPH. Then we plan to add weight on the dyno rollers until we can achieve that speed on the dyno with the exact same car.
Now, while not a perfect calibration, it will be the closest thing available to our community!
I'll also be doing a write-up on how we modified the dyno to hook to the PC, the circuitry to keep the LCD accurate after the mod and the weighting process.
Too much stuff to do and not enough time to do it in!!! <sigh>

It'd be simple enough to look at what he's claiming to have reached in MPH(44.1) and then look at his pic of the speed checker reading (71 KPH), to know that the guy converted it.

The motor gets VERY HOT!!! I am using a drilled stock heatsink but it is not keeping the motor cool enough. I am currently working on a custom heatsink with 3/4" tall fins. If all goes well, we might sell them on the site.

That's the killer if you are only ordering a sink ... we charge $5 flat rate regardless of how much ordered (so you are better off ordering a motor too or something! <wink>).
