Im thinking of putin a roll cage in either my civic, camaro, or skyline. Has anyone ever done it? Can you tell me what you made it out of? Thanks.

i was thinking of doing a rollcage but never got around to it, i would go with toothpicks and tape-it sounds cheap but could work just fine

The plastic "trees" from model kits might provide the gauge plasic you need. Or maybe non Q Q-tips?

A little heat might make for bendability.

I want the rollcage to look good. Like chrome or something, not toothpicks and crap. LOL

The modelling "trees" (sprue) was a good idea, and you could find that in chrome. Most can be bent with heat, and it takes paint well. Or most hobby shops have small guage tubing that could work, and you could use solder to "weld" it.

It's what you do with it that counts.

i just got an idea that may work. take some metal coat hangers and cut them into pieces with a wire cutter. solder the pieces together and paint it if you want.

The paper clips will work, but takes some skill to pull off. The model trees is a good idea too and easier to work with. If it was me, I'd go with styrene tubing from a hobby shop. You can get it in very small diameters, but if you need to go small use the solid rods. Think of the scale you're working with here. Model trees may be a tad to thick. The plastic would allow you to cut, bend, and glue very easily. And painting is a snap. It would also make it easier to attach to the body and be much lighter than metal. You could even use small pieces of wire insulation to slip over the rods before you glue to simulate padded areas. If you need something from around the house, the Q-tip idea would work very well. Coat hangers won't work as it takes extreme heat to solder them. Much more than paper clips. And the weight would be prohibative.

Or you could just tint your windows and tell everyone there's a roll cage in there.

I just ripped a couple of Dub City cars apart for their wheels, and found that the orange Eclipse interior features a roll bar. If you pick up this one car, you could get some killer wheels AND a pre-made roll bar for modifying onto the top of your Zip's PCB cover.
Who knows, you might be able to cut up some of the other interior detais to work too?

They cost me 2.69 ea at Target.
