Has/does anyone stretch springs to get harder suspension?

IMO yes the upgrade suspension kit is worth it not only giving you springs but more tie rods for different situations.
The springs do make quite a noticable difference though.

YES, STRECHING THE SPRINGS WILL STIFFEN THE SUSP. IT DEPENDS ON WHAT SURFACE YOU ARE RUNNING ON, AND WHAT YOU WANT YOUR CAR TO DO.. ON HARD SUFACES (BASEMENT FLOOR/ MARBEL/ ECT) STIFF SPRINGS WILL HELP.
