I had a problem with the charger not charging the batteries. but other than that no. I just returned the set to RS and got a new one. really easy since I work there.

if your serious at all about racing rc cars, don't buy rs batteries go with reputable brands such as energizer, rayovak and there are plenty more that are better than rs stuff.

I agree with arch2b. RS batteries aren't that good for racing. If you have a local hobby shop, you should try picking up some PN or GP AAA batteries. They are designed for quick discharge(45 mins). Radioshack designs its batts to last a long time like Alkalines, so their batteries aren't as quick to discharge. This may cause a decrease in speed.

kyosho spec aaa's (which are the only nimh battery allowed in the 2004 mini-z cup races) are actually relabled gp 800mah 1.2v nimh (so we have been told)
i have a set and they are very nice. i don't see much or any difference between them and the energizer 700/750?mah 1.2v nimh.
if i had the money to burn, i'd like to try rayovak's new 15min aaa's and charger. i already have 5 sets of energizers, 2 sets or gold rayovaks, 1 set of pn 780mah 1.25v's, 1 set of kyosho specs and maybe some others?!? when you have a box full, it's hard to remember
you you are serious about racing your xmod, don't skimp on cheap rs batteries. like much of the stuff, it's cheap. i mean, rs it the kmart of elelctronics.
there are other battery choices which are more expensive such as zapped and matched cells, squat precision(asian parts manufacturer) carries a few varieties.

IC3s
So far NOTHING is better than the Rayovac IC3s, they're 800mA and 1.2V, BUT My fluke meter consistantly reads them at 1.45V and the Fluke don't lie!!!

Anything is better than RS batts. Their batts. are set to discharge real slow, so your performance suffers...

Honestly, I've found with NiMHs that batteries are batteries. As long as you're aware of the discharge rates, you shouldn't have many problems going generic or whatever. I've seen probably about 20 different brands of NiMH AAs and AAAs, and I've had just as good (if not better) results from generics as I have from decent brand names. I've got some lenmars, some energizers, some powerizers, and a number of different generics. I've gotten decent performance out of all of them.
In this respect, I think batteries are like stereo systems. A $500 stereo system will put out decent sound. A $2000 stereo system will put out good sound. A $20,000 stereo system will put out slightly better sound. Worth it? To some, sure. To most of us? No way.
Just don't get sucked into buying more expensive batteries unless you're super hardcore or something. I guess everyone has to be snobby about something
Of course...I wouldn't buy radioshack batteries either! Check out www.batteryspace.com for CHEAP AAAs. At $19 for 24, you can't help but get your money's worth.
