AWWW YEAH! Best micro RC racing surface EVAR!!!
Since my plunge into the world of micro RC I've been wandering around looking for the best surface to run on. Something with a lot of area, but free from bumps and obstacles (or, obstacles I don't set up myself).
this has taken me many places. Hardwood floors, very thin carpet, pool tables, desktops, tile, linoleum, sidewalks, parking lots... none of which were all too great.
smooth linoleum is good, but the floors in my apartment need to be swept and mopped before I can run without my cat's fur getting in the axles and gears. The area isn't big enough to set up a nice big track.
Pool tables grip well, but they're too small.
Sidewalks and parking lots are too rough and the cracks stop the car dead cold.
Desks and tables are fun for showing off my new toy, but they are no good if you want some speed or anything more than 4 cones to slalom through back and forth.
Tonight, I found the spot. The Tennis Court. Perfectly flat painted asphalt, smooth with a little roughness, but offers a very forgiving terrain, and the double court at my complex offers at least a few thousand square feet, split in half only by a pair of tennis nets.
Wow. I'm in heaven. Time go get the cones out!
Where have you found that offers a great surface and enough room to have a lot of fun?

My friends and I race on insulation foam. My friend's dad has a company that builds temporary walls, needless to say he has a lot of it laying around. It works good and is very easy to assemble and transport. Painting it is a whole different story though...

I have found that the hardwood floor in my livingroom works well, as long as it is clean (cant race the slicks on the dust), or linoleum, but what seems to work really well is the smooth cement floor in my garage. Its just the right texture for grip, but not so bumpy that it slows you down, plus its one big slab, so theres no cracks.
Also, theres a nice oil spill from my Jeep for when I want to do mini-burnouts.
