Tyco Tantrum Motor
Hey guys. First off im pretty new to this forum and as far as mods go, im pretty much a noob. Anywayz I was thinking of ways that I could get a decent motor for my xmod without spending much, if any, money at all cause im real low on cash. So I remembered this RC car I got a looong time ago called Tantrum (made by Tyco) and I remembered that it was fairly big and fairly heavy but it was b*tchin torquey and pretty damn fast. So I found the thing and takin it apart. I got to the motor used for steering (the car had a unique steering system) and it was pretty damn big and had an 8 tooth pinion on it. I started opening the back to get to the drive motor and after like 30 mins of trying to open the freakin thing it finally popped open. The drive motor was what appeared to be the same motor as the steering motor but it had a 9 tooth pinion. I desoldered the crap off the cap of my stock xmod motor and soldered it onto the tantrum's motor. I then plugged it into my car to make sure it spun the right way (it did) and i compared it to the SB Hybrid my car was running. It seemed to spin a lot faster than the SB Hybrid with S2 Top Speed armature. Anyways after a long time of trying to get the thing to fit in the car I finally got it. I cut up the stock yellow engine holder so it would hold the motor at an angle towards the bevel gear (angled was the only way they would make contact) and i used a lil bit of super glue to hold the motor onto the yellow thing. It has a crapload of torque, though the top speed is not too high (probably because it only has 9 teeth). It drifts really nice too. Most of you probably won't be able to do this exact mod since you probably don't have the tantrum (and it was kinda expensive as i remember) plus i think they stopped making them, but I just decided to drop this in anyway. If you have any questions ask away, and if you want me to, ill try to get some pics.
Also, unfortunately no one I know has an xmod so I can't race anyone and compare the motor to theirs.

Pics would be good, then we might be able to cross-reference the motor with a known type.

Yea mine looks kinda like that but the motor is totally round, it doesn't have 2 flat sides. Also about your 4 megapixel camera, to get a crisp picture either set it to "macro" mode (on mine it's the pic of a flower on the spinny menu thing) or, if you don't have a macro mode, hold the camera farther away and zoom in on the car. Cameras can't take pictures of thing real close up unless things are changed, like a small lens difference, or in the digi cam world, changing modes.
I'll try to get some pics of my car once I get the motor secured properly. right now, if i run into something kinda hard the motor will spin but not hit the gear and it sounds weird cause its not held in tight enough. Also, right now i got mid terms so i might not be able to finish off the mod for a lil while
