Plasma Dash review

I decided to try the Plasma Dash Tamiya motor in an Xmod. It did not fry anything, thank the RC gods for that one. I tried it in a stock xmod with no mods.

The motor must be installed with the motor wires reversed from the way it was intended to run, like the x speed.

When I drove the car it took the motor a few seconds to wind up after I applied full throttle. The torque on this motor was very poor. After several feet it picked up speed and ran pretty fast.

In comparison to the Xspeed motor in an xmod; the Plasma has higher RPMs making the hi end faster, but much less torque so it takes awhile to reach this higher speed. Personally I am going to stay with the Xspeed motor.

so an x speed motor will fit in without having to change any of the stock pieces? if you do have to change anything, what is it that you have to change?
thankz

Let me clarify.

Both the Xspeed and the Plasma Dash have negative and positive terminals. These terminals are where the cars speed control connects to the motor (the little black plug).

The Xspeed comes with two wires already soderled to it on these terminals; a red wire to the positive terminal and a black wire to the negative terminal. The Plasma Dash Does not come with any wires.

In order to get these motors to work in an Xmod you need to reverse the positive and negative wires. The negative wire from the Xmod goes to the positive terminal on the motor and the positive wire from the xmod goes to the negative terminal on the motor. If you do not do this your xmod will run in reverse.

These motors are both easy to install. If you know how to solder and have a little common sense the install is very easy.

The brake funtion still works. I got my pinion puller and press at a local hobbie shop in San Jose. Think it is called Slot Car Hobbies. I have had both the press and puller for 5 years or so. Not sure where you can find one now, but I would not think they would be too hard to find online some place.

Hudson5150 nice to see a fellow san jose hobbiest! the plasma dash is a leet motor if you have the power to push it. in my experience if u can get a clean 6v on AA or higher to it, it will have plenty of torque. also if that is too many batteries for your taste, you can try replacing the magnets with neo___ mags. they will give more than 4x the torque. but then you risk burning somethin since that motor is hot as it is.
