a question about motors & microsizers first impressions
After getting the itch to buy an r/c car, (i am saving to buy a 1/10 or 1/8 scale buggy) i've spent many nights researching the internet. One night, when i couldn't sleep, and had r/c cars on my mind, i came across some mini r/c discussions. i thought how coool it would be to have a tiny r/c car running around here, and decided to go to the local 24 "superstore" to see what they had in their toy dept.
My first 2 cars were, a nikko jeep wrangler, and a hot wheels mini r/c, (i forget the exact product name, but who cares, it was total crap). without going into too much detail, i will say, i wasn't impressed with either one. the nikko had the worst controller ever (just a joystick), and it was tough getting the car going anywhere, especially if it involved turning. too bad too because the model looked good, and had some decent sized tires; big enough to roll over the carpet in my apt. the hot wheels car had a nice controller with a bubble to hold the car (in this case an SUV), however, after a few seconds of playing with it, all that could come to mind was, 'fast, cheap, and out of control'. yes, this car was fast, especially compared to a bit, but the control was awful, just no fun to play with.
the following day, i located a store selling microsizers, and bought 2. i almost missed them and almost bought some infrared controlled, rear wheel steering thing that ran like sh!t in the store (digi-Q?).
these cars looked so cool. i got a toyota Bb body and a skyline gt-r, both black. and all the little accessories that you have to put together yourself! i was so anxious to play. when everything was together i was shocked and disappointed by a few things. first, i couldn't believe how damn slow these things were, and the reception was also just pathetic, i mean, give me at least 15 ft. i see now that you pretty much HAVE to upgrade these things to enjoy them at all, well, that's being a bit tough on them, they are fun, but you all know what i mean.
despite the bad reception and the ultra slow speed, i was impressed at how wonderful the control was (turning and such), but i needed more. i began reading all about micro r/c ing and bit char-G mods on as many websites as i could find.
i'm on a mission to get a decent motor for my cars ( a nimh batt would be great too), but something i've read a few times confuses me. i'm pretty sure the higher the motor #, the more power/speed it produces, yet the 2.2 that comes with my microsizer pro's, (which i thought would be a pretty decent motor since i know the earlier bits used 1.0 motors), is so slow that i can't imagine anything less even moving the cars. then, i read on various websites, the following,
MicroSnap Motor — Version 1.0
*Maxes run times for the long haul.
*Driving ease for cruising.
ok, pretty modest
MicroSnap Motor — Version 1.6
*Drop-in dynamite to satisfy your need for speed!
drop in dynamite? need for speed? uh, this is where it gets confusing, on to the next one
MicroSnap Motor — Version 2.2
*Standard speed equipment in all R/C MicroSizers.
*Great for all-around driving.
ok, 2.2, bigger? faster? i would think, but again, a modest description. standard equipment, all around, etc. next...
MicroSnap Motor — Version 2.6
*The power plant that puts the “V” in velocity!
*Dynamite for drags and high-speed events.
and finally, more dynamite. this seems consistent with higher # = faster etc.
then, i read this about the newest bit char-g models, the power claws or whatever they're called.
Bit Char-G RC Car W-02 Wild Rumble Claw Mini Off Road Truck (35MHz).
Full 6-way Function Remote Control
- Operates with 2 AA Batteries (Not Included)
- World Smallest Mini Micro Size Car
- Only 2.2" Long
- Micro B 1.0 Motor with 2 channel transmitter.
- Built-in Ni/Cd Rechargeable Battery Recharges in 45 seconds, Hi-Speed Racing
huh? how does the NEW bit char-g cars only have a 1.o motor, and for a big burly truck they advertize as driving up 15º inclines?
so what's the deal with the motors? do the lower #'s have more torque/less speed? i mean my 2.2 is pretty weak and pathetic, i can't imagine seeing anything less in any car. and why does microsizers site only refer to the 2.2 as standard and all around and the 1.6 as dynamite? can someone please clear this up for me? i'm anxious to get a new motor and battery; by the way, where's the best place to pick this stuff up (best = lowest priced).
thanks
michael

...tomy motors suck (IMO)...there are clone motors out there that will put them to shame !!...all motors are diff. you could have 2 of the same motor and 1 might have killer torque and the other might suck...What motor you get would depend on what you will be doing with your car !...I myself like dual cells and dont need a high # motor ( like a 3.8) the stock motor in a shen will be awsome for my uses...but if you dont have a dual cell mod than i would recomend a Formula 3.4 motor(Tiny has those) the torque is GREAT and so is the speed, and you will still be able to control your bit W/O fliping..! hope that helps......

My suggestion
The MS Pro's are a booster car, I have the skyline GTR, plus I have a Tomy Fairlady Z and the Tomy auto modelista set. All are booster's. With the 2.2 the non boosted speed is slow, but boost is fairly quick. I run at least a 3.0 in these so that the slow speed is equivalent to about a 1.6. The booster's are weird becuase the boost speed is actual normal speed and the non boosted speed is about half speed. I just picked up a 4.2 king (it was included with part of an order I made with toyeast) so I'm going to try it with one of the booster cars. non boosted should be about a 2.0 or 2.2. We'll see. I haven't had any problems with Tomy motors, but I have seen some killer motors in clones that can really make fly. For you MS Pro, I would definately recommend getting something 3.0 or higher. It should run great after that.

i did just that and the results are well worth the upgrade, here is a link to my review of my upgraded parts.

i have a ms pro that i put a perfection "Pro 4.2 King" motor into and now it is frikin fast!!!!! at full speed it flips and rolls at least 3 full rolls before stoping......I LOVE THE SPEED!!!!!!! i also have fastest gears availible, hard tires for speed, and a 120 mAh battery from a clone.....basicaly everything short of a fet mod.......
i highly recomend getting "after market" parts (motors, gears, etc....)...............one really good source of parts is buying a Super Perfection set from toyeast.......i got one and i am not disapointed! they come stock with a 3.8 motor, high tention heat sync/motor clip, 2 bodies, and a realitivly good chassie......the bodie have exelent quality and it is a great valueat $15..........
hope this helps!
