goodbye xmods

i love these xmods but i cannot accept their poor quality construction..
bought my 1st one a red supra/put in suspension upgrades and even altered the rack for tighter turns..then put in stage 2 motor and bearing upgrades..experimented with awd and liked that too..
then the car started stuttering.
tried fresher batt in tx tried new batts in chassis tried better soldering job on car ant lead tried cleaning contacts on xmitter ant tried pushing tx batt harder to contacts
screamed in agony as car stutters anytime it gets more than 7 feet away..
ripped all my hopups off+returned it..
opened 2nd xmod it seemed better..put in hopups and slowly but surely range decreased..
went to ratshack again and showed them how useful a 15 mpr car can be with 5 feet of range..
they opened up a 3rd xmod case and i assembled tires+ant+batt in front of them..new controller+batts and the 3rd one also lost signal intermittantly but this time at any range..
yyyeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh
at least they gave me my money back
the thing that makes me angry is i see so much potential in this chassis but the propriatary tx and rx inadequacy renders it useless and unreliable

i do wish you all the best of luck with your xmods

did you put something in the bottom of the radio battery make it flush against the contacts, cuz alot of the batteries won't reach and get loose on the contacts, it did that to me on my first one, and i fixed it by simply putting a few pieces of paper to take up the space....just a thought....i've never had a problem with my skyline....

should we have to "add a few pieces of paper" to it to make it work? I don't think so...these things are made very cheap. therefor you get a $50 price tag...you get what you pay for.

I am sorry that you had so many problems with your xmods. Overall, I think these cars are very well made and I realize that some people are having problems with theirs and some people have not had any problems with theirs. Even full size cars tend to be prone to problems during initial production. I have purchased many RC cars in the past and it is fairly common to have some problems with early production models. My mini-z and micro rs4 both had minor defects. Even some people who have purchased the new MR-02 mini-z chassis are having problems and it costs three times as much. I just hope that the quality of these cars continue to improve as production continues.

Ouch that must really suck. I have had no problems with my skyline yet. I am really lucky I guess.

My crystal was loose as well, but my range is fairly good. I have 2 XMODS, and both are excellent.
