1:1 cars are like that because their is only 1 reverse gear and about 4 forward gears.

Actually with real cars it's a matter of gear ratio. (reverse is numerically higher than first, or any other forward gear) reverse gives more torque, lower speed, and thus more control.

With R/C it's a matter of how reverse is just there to save you from having to have Turn Marshalls everywhere, and make it a little more realistic. So be glad they even included one!!

You mean reverse is lower than 1st right?

I believe that's what he is saying, however, in my 1981 accord (I rebuilt the transmission) reverse was actually first gear with one idler gear in the way to reverse the direction it turns. So reverse was literally identical to 1st in that car, torque and gear ratio wise. Also considering that I've goten up to 35 MPH in reverse in one of my cars (it's speedometer reads reverse speed too), I'd say it's very similar too.

Yup. I noticed that too. It would be weird if the reverse was actually faster than the acceleration.

Yeah, you read that correctly. I didn't feel like including numbers to clarify/confuse the issue.

And as with all things automotive, there are exceptions to every rule. I happen to drive American domestics, and some aircooled German; and with the ones I own, they have the lower reverse than first gear.

God I wish they had something other than the RX-7 SE at my Radio Hack.

The forward is faster because they stacked a couple transistors in the forward position, cutting resistance in half.
